Third book in the series and I am still addicted. The Argeneau of focus in this one was Lucern and he played the role of the curmudgeonly old vamp (over 600 years old) who was growing tired of life. Enter his editor - Kate C Leever. Kate took over "handling" Luc when his old editor died of a heart attack. Growing increasingly annoyed at his lack of communication she finally - in a desperate bid - flew to his house in Toronto to make him commit to an interview or a book tour or just to giving her a phone number so she could contact him. The funny is that Luc writes paranormal romance novels - which of course are actually non-fiction chronologies of his families lives - but are sold as paranormal romance. (Reminds me of a certain J.R. Ward....)

Anywho - Kate gets to Luc's house and of course slap stick comedy and misunderstandings abound. Finally Luc agrees to do the "R.T. Thing" just to get Kate out of his house and out of his life. Poor Luc didn't realize he agreed to 5 days in New York at the Romantic Times Convention! (I know!) And Kate doesn't know he is a Vamp at this point - so you just know it's gonna be all kinds of goodness!

It was fun following Kate and Luc's misadventures and steamy adventures while they wondered what that ringing was - It's the Clue-phone people - answer it! Seriously though - it was very enjoyable and I am already slowly ingesting the 4th book in the series to see what Argeneau Vampire will end up in the Love Seat next.

I'm glad I finally started on this series. Single White Vampire was a cute, amusing, chick-lit style vampire romance. But unlike the thick, flowery, icky romantic writing style of Christine Feehan, this book's style more closely resembles that of MaryJanice Davidson's Undead series.

Lucern Argeneau is a vampire, but he's also a writer. Little does the unsuspecting public realize that the paranormal romance books he's writing are actually accounts of his family's history: the relationship of his mother Marguerite and father Claude, his brother Etienne to Rachel Garrett, his sister Lissianna to Gregory Hewitt... the stories he tells in his books, while fact to him, are fiction to the public because who really believes in vampires anyway?

Kate Leever is Lucern's editor, and pays a visit to Luc to try to convince him to participate in a few publicity events for his books. She is shocked by the reclusive and surly vampirethough she doesn't yet realize that's what he truly is. Between Kate and Luc's mother, they trick him into attending the Romantic Times conference, where Kate begins to wonder about the increasing feelings she has towards him as she begins to crack Luc's hardened exterior and see the true man beneath.

There were a number of funny scenes, such as Luc's introduction to television, and his indignation at watching Buffy the Vampire Slayer. "Did you see that? Buffy just staked that poor vampire. He had yet to do anything even untoward, he just crawled out of his grave and she staked him. That is just not right!" LOL

Great series! I have read 4 books out of this series so far. I started with book 6 and laughed so hard I decided to go back and read them in order. I liked that the author had a new "take" where vampires come from and how they are not the evil dead. It seems that you do not have to read the books in a certain order to understand what is going on and each book is good enough to stand on it's own, but you will get a spoiler on who gets married.... and might ruin the ending of previous books so I would suggest starting them in order. I actually think the author is funny, and has a easy flowing writing style that makes for a fun, quick read.

Book three is my fav so far. I can't wait to read book 4!!

I give this one 3.5 stars. This is the third in Lynsay Sands Argeneau Vampire series. Like the previous books, it is a light fast read.

Lucern is a six hundred-year-old vampire who has taken to recounting the love stories of his family members. Those stories end up being published as paranormal romance and are much loved by fans everywhere. But then Luc's editor Kate decides that Luc needs to pay more attention to his fans--perhaps attend a publicity event or two. Sparks fly between the two as Kate attempts to convince the surly man to lighten up. At the same time Luc's allergy to sunlight and unusual sleeping schedule begin to make Kate suspicious that he may in fact be a vampire.

I can't actually claim that this book is laugh-out-loud funny, but it is extremely amusing at times. Luc is a decently written character with both anti-social and very sweet sides. I liked that the plot involved attending a romance convention and commented on romance as a genre a lot--self refrencing humor that worked well.

What I didn't like was that the situational humor seemed forced at times--like the author was trying just a bit too hard. And while the romance was steamy, it was never spectacular or touching. The main flaw though is that the heroine was completely stupid. I realize that her cluelessness was supposed to be part of the comedy, but after awhile it was just annoying.

This series is fairly good light paranormal. I recommend it if you're looking for a laugh.

I really liked this book. After reading this I went on to read all the other argeneau vampire books in this series. You should read them from book 1 to the end. That makes it easier to know the family memebers in each book. I won't write what the book is about so I don't spoil reading it but I will say it is not too bad for being a romance novel about vampires.

SWM-"Lucern." Successful biographer of family, books recently categorized as "paranormal romances." Something of a recluse. Hates crowds, aggressive women. Doesn't like sunbathing, garlicky dinners or religious symbols. Likes old-fashione values; spicy mexican dishes; warm,nice-smelling necks; and plump red lips. Stronger than then men and can vanish in the blink of an eye. Currently unaware he's seeking a woman to share eternity.
SWF-"Kate C. Leever." Newest editor of Rmance at Roundhouse Publishing. Perky, fun. Has recently discovered a egacy author just dying to be broken out. In fact, her career could take off from it. (The tall, dar, handsome writer just needs to be takend to several romance conventions and introduced to his fans...and stopped from acting so strange in public.) Dislikes "difficult, rude, obnoxious, pig-headed writers." Currently unaware she's met the man of her wildest dreams.

Interesting story! The hero in this story has written 'historical accounts' of his vampire family (supposedly the first two books in the series, sort of), but they are being sold as vampire romance novels! He is a surly, reclusive writer who wants to be left alone. But he gets tricked into attending a Romantic Times convention by his new editor and his interfering mother. Hilarious! With his new editor, he finds a renewed passion for living (and a passion for her, as well). I enjoyed this one and will keep seeking out this series.

Best to read them in order and they reference events from prior books. Book 1 is "A Quick Bite"; Book 2 is "Love Bites". I gave it 4 stars.

An unexpected fun read. I started this hesitant. The first 150 page of this really dragged and was beginning to become redundant. Lucern is a pathetic whining shut in that apparently gave up on the social human species. Kate is his new editor determined to drag his butt out to help save her job. I loved the way this picked up and went to a romance writers convention. It really took things a new surreal way. My biggest peeve about this was the editorial mess. For a book about writers there were a lot of mistakes I had to muddle over for a published book. This will not deter me from reading another book in this series. It was very funny, but not too much cheese.

Never new there were so many questions to be answered before purchasing condoms...that, and when they broke into the blood bank, had me laughing so hard I had to stop reading for a couple of minutes. This is the 3rd book in the Argeneau series that I have read. This one is my favorite so far. I am enjoying how each book is about a different member of the family finding their life mate. The author is very good at having the same characters in all three books. The main character is grumpy and has a hard time expressing himself, so it is great to see how it works out. There is several times that the book has me laughing out loud with it's humor. Can't wait to read the next book and see how the next family member finds love....
reneez avatar reviewed Single White Vampire (Argeneau Vampires, Bk 3) on + 6 more book reviews
This book is an excellent read. You are intrigued from the moment you open it up. It is one of the best written Lynsay Sands Argeneau Vampire books. Roadhouse Pulishing Editor Kate Leever appears on Lucern's doorstep and the story begins. Not only is a romance story it is also a romance comedy as well, very entertaining.

Lucern is 600-year old romance novel writer of none other than vampire romance, he uses the scenerios from his siblings love lifes and how they find their life mates to write his stories. Lucern, the vampire, isn't the nicest of guys - I mean after 600 years he has lost interest in life and just wants to hibernate. Then the story introduces Kate,, the editory who is stubborn and, quite frankly, doesn't have much going on in her life other than work. Somehow the two see the good parts of each other and you find yourself routing for them.

Kate is the hero at times when she realizes that Luc is not really writing fiction. Then Lady Borrow comes to the aid of Luc. Then we all know who is behind Luc and Kate - no other than his matchmaker mother.

I think if I hadn't been reading so many other AWESOME paranormal/vampire authors, I probably would have liked this book. Instead I was bored, skimmed more than half of it, nearly putting it down. I was curious enough to finish it, wanting to know how things were resolved, but I just couldn't get into this book.

I have read the first two books in the series - the first I LOVED, the second was more "meh", but I've noticed sophomore efforts are often weak links, and continued to this one.

In retrospect, I think part of the issue is that if you read a lot of vampire romance, as I do, you accept the notion of vampires being "real" (in literature). So to have the only conflict in the story being vampirism itself, and the vampire not even having an internal struggle (a dark side) or even vamprisim being particularly bad or evil, there is not enough basic conflict to carry the story.

Might be done with Lynsay Sands for a while.

This uproariously hilarious romance features an intrepid romance editor, Kate C. Leever, who goes to Toronto to convince reclusive romance writer Lucern Argeneau to do some publicity. She has no idea that he is a gorgeous, silvery-eyed 612-year-old vampire, and that the characters in his best-selling vampire romance novels have the same names and occupations as members of his family. When his mother tells him that he should cooperate just to get Kate off his back, Lucern agrees, not realizing that he's committed himself to attending a romance convention. Being a vampire of his word he does go, then, when his blood supply doesn't show up, Kate comes up with the idea of robbing a bank--a blood bank, that is. Other convulsively comic interludes include a struggle over a seriously stuck codpiece at the Renaissance Ball. Sizzlingly sensuous sex is appropriate to the plot and pacing, adding to the delight of Sands' tale, the first installment in the Argeneau series

Another Lynsay Sands book where the lead characters make out-of-established-character, and, in my opinion, stupid decisions. The hero is a vampire, which is, by necesity, super-secret. So when a strange woman comes pounding on his door his decision is to let her stay in his home instead of sending her packing or atleast putting her into a hotel? I get the feeling the author forced situations and decisions on her characters that just didn't make sense. And if the storyline doesn't make sense, I can't enjoy it.
