Same book as "Shopaholic Abroad." More adventures of Becky Bloomwood. Hard to believe anyone could dig her way out of such shopping-induced debt, but our heroine is quite resourceful. This is the second book in the series.

The books in the Shopaholic series are quick and fun reads for anyone looking to escape from mainstream "heavier" fiction. Becky's adventures are quite fun to observe, and as a reader, I found myself both identifying with her and asking "why in the world would you go and do a thing like that?" Plus, if you love shopping (and maybe a little too much like me), this is a great and cheaper substitute.

While I was pleasantly surprised and amused by the first book in this series, this one leaves me wondering if the next 3 have the same theme - she digs herself deep in debt with obsessive shopping, gets out of it through some miraculous epiphany/deux ex machina (and a touch of hard work/soul searching), and then in the next book it all starts again? I certainly hope not . . .
Nonetheless, her lies during the downward spiral and the awkward situations she gets herself into are always worth a good laugh. And, deep down, Becky Bloomwood is a really nice person, a loyal friend, and a good daughter, so how can you not like her in spite of it all?

Becky Bloomwood is back....and up to her usual ways!! After paying of all her debts in book 1 she moves to NYC with her boyfriend Luke and discovers.....well New York (IE the shopping capital of the world.....well at least one of them) She also discovers another thing no shopaholic can possibly resist.... Sample sales!!! So, in just a short time Becky is back into spending mode diving head first into New York's world renowned Designer Botiques, Chic Department stores, Posh beauty supply stores, & well basically anything else that has a cash register is fare game as far as Becky is concerned. And as any shopaholic has experienced; after the highs of buying well... pretty much everything that catches your eye...eventually you come down off that high...and crash hard..... Same laugh out loud humor as in the 1st shopaholic....and definitly just as good a read!! Loved it!!

This is the second book in the Shopaholic Series. Becky and her new boyfriend Luke end up visiting NYC in preparation for Luke's expanding company and Becky's potential job opportunities as a TV financial journalist. You would think that after the first book, Becky would have learned her lesson about debt. No, that's not the case at all. In fact, she's gotten herself into even WORSE debt this time around because of her higher salary and the fact that she feels "foreign money doesn't count, so you can spend as much as you'd like" in a Monopoly money sense. So with this in mind, she discovers the joys of big spending and sample sales in NYC. Everything comes to a head though when photos of Becky's NYC spending sprees and her debt is made public in London. She's overseas and can't defend herself, the American job opportunities dry up, and Luke finds out about her spending and this threatens his career plans as well as their relationship. What can Becky do to get out of the jam this time?
I enjoyed this book even more than the first book. Perhaps it's because Becky's shopping addiction is made public and she's really forced to deal with it, as compared to the first book where it's swept under the rug. You also realize how lucky Becky is to have wonderful friends, especially her London flatmate Suze, Tarquin, and Luke's business partner Michael. Finally, as with the first book, the letters from Becky's creditors and her responses that start off many of the chapters, are just hilarious! :-)

I liked this book. I love the whole series, so I feel like my reviews of the series will sound redundant, but I just really enjoy them all. I like that when I first started reading this book I was afraid that it would basically be the same as the previous (Confessions of a Shopaholic) but it really wasn't. The characters were there, the humor was there, but it was a completely different episode for the Shopaholic series. I would recommend this book to anyone. My husband even got a good laugh when I would read particularly funny excerpts.

Another great story by Kinsella. Becky is so lovable and easily identifiable. I know firsthand how easy it is to go a little crazy with the shopping and let it all crash down on you at once. I think most women have had that happen at least once in her life.
The irresistible heroine of Confessions of a Shopaholic and Shopaholic Ties the Knot is back! And this time Becky Bloomwood and her credit cards are headed across the Atlantic...
With her shopping excesses (somewhat) in check and her career as a TV financial guru thriving. But packing takes on a whole new meaning when Luke announces he's moving to New York for business--and he asks Becky to go with him! Before you can say "Prada sample sale," Becky has landed in the Big Apple, home of Park Avenue penthouses and luxury boutiques.
Surely it's only a matter of time until she becomes an American TV celebrity, and she and Luke are the toast of Gotham society. Nothing can stand in their way, expecially with Becky's bills miles away in London. But then an unexpected disaster threatens her career prospects, her relationship with Luke, and her available credit line!

Rebecca Bloomwood the shopping maven is back in another book by Sophie Kinsella. When we last left Rebecca she had gotten a good job on Morning Coffee and had paid off all her debts. She had a handsome boyfriend in Luke Brandon, and everything seemed to be on the rise for her.
When we come on her again, things are looking similar to when we left. There is the Morning Coffee show she has Luke Brandon, and of course she is still living in the flat with Suze her best friend and roommate. There is however something old and yet new, Becky is again in debt. She just can not seem to get her shopping under control, we have found her again unable to say no to even the stupidest of purchases that she will never use! She rations them away and finds some obscure reason as to why she will need them. And than those letters start coming from the bank again, Oh my!
Sophie has made another laughable and yet emotional book that you can enjoy and that is a fast read. I had fun reading this book and it is just as enjoyable as the first one. Although you do find yourself saying why is Becky doing this again? Didn't she learn the last time? You still get a good chuckle out of it. Especially when our poor girl who so needs treatment for the addiction finds herself in New York with Luke. Things are certainly not perfect, and once again things come crashing down around Becky's ears. But well what does any self respecting person do? Try again. If you like Chic Lit, and loved the first book Confessions of a Shopaholic you will love Shopaholic takes Manhattan.

Oh no, she takes Manhattan. I was afraid for her bank accounts. This story does have Becky charging away, but more of the focus seems to be on her relationship with new boyfriend, Luke. I love Luke, he's dreamy. Anyway, we see them progress and Becky fouls things up as usual, but thank God Luke is so understanding.
Quick and fun, as per usual.

I actually enjoyed this one much more than the first book! It was funnier and I was so glad at the career that she finally chose - it really is surprising that she hadn't thought of it sooner. I'm not sure where these books are heading next - but if she ends up in debt AGAIN, I don't know how much longer the charm of the books will hold up. I know most chic lit is rather formulaic... but the same plotline for five books is a bit much.

Sure, it's tongue-in-cheek and all in good fun but will the barrage of shopping hijinks be enough to hold readers this time around? Kinsella creates some winning characters, but the credit card and shopping bag action is wearing dangerously thin.

But then an unexpected disaster threatens her career prospects, her relationship with Luke, and her available credit line! Shopaholic Takes Manhattan–but will she have to return it?

I think most women know a "shopaholic". Although I'm not a shopaholic, I must say that I have certainly used Becky's reasonings in other things. You will love this book! So funny and some good lessons to learn.

The second Shopaholic book. Becky Bloomwood accompanies her boyfriend Luke to New York. She gets into the same trouble as the first book- debt up to her eyeballs. I find her to be very fluffy and not all that likable, but the book is funny and Kinsella hs written other books that I've enjoyed.
I loved the first book, but after reading this one, I am truley a shopohalic fan!! I can releat to Becky soo much in shopping and in life.

From Publishers Weekly
The world is a different place since Helen Fielding triumphed on both sides of the Atlantic, but the torrent of benignly self-indulgent Bridget Jones's Diary knockoffs has not subsided. In this sequel to Kinsella's bestselling Confessions of a Shopaholic, Becky Bloomwood, a personal finance "expert" with her own TV show, is more of a financial mess than ever: she can't stop shopping, even though she can't afford anything. She's even assigned her flatmate, Suze, to monitor her spending, but to no avail: Becky is full of cute rationalizations, like "Foreign money doesn't count, so you can spend as much as you like," and can't stop herself from sneaking into posh boutiques. Her work-obsessed boyfriend, Luke, runs a financial PR agency, and when he gets the green light to open an office in New York City, he brings Becky along. Upon her arrival in the Big Apple, she euphorically discovers Barney's, Saks, Sephora and sample sales but when wind of her shopping excesses gets back to the British press, she loses both her relationship and her TV job. Becky manages to save the day in predictably winning fashion, with plenty of comic moments along the way. Sure, it's tongue-in-cheek and all in good fun but will the barrage of shopping hijinks be enough to hold readers this time around? Kinsella creates some winning characters, but the credit card and shopping bag action is wearing dangerously thin.

Just like her first book...cute, but I'm already tired of this plot-line!
I have read Confessions of a Shopaholic and wanted more and that is just what I got. More fun, more surprises, and more laughs.

I'm sorry but I don't "universally" love Becky Bloomwood. Sometimes I find her annoying and just sorry. Let's go to Manhattan. Let's go to Sephora. Let's go to sample sales. Let's just shop, shop, shop and pretend we went to museums and cultural places. Because goodness knows when we'll be back to the U.S. When I went to London about 20 years ago, I think I spent an hour walking around in Harrod's just to say I was there. I think I bought something because I still have the olive green and gold bag. But that was it. Nothing to rave on and on about. I guess I'm not a shopaholic. A bookaholic, yes, but I doubt there'd ever be a book written about that.

This is a wonderful sequel and Becky Bloomwood fits right in with the Manhattan scene. We also get to see a softer side of Becky and how she keeps her wits about her when some very unflattering information becomes public record.

Love all the Shopaholic Books!
The Shopaholic series by Sophie Kinsella is very funny, great light reading. Perfect for when you want something brainless to read ;-) It's somewhat in the vein of Bridget Jones.
classic. becky rocks manhattan.
Poor Rebecca Bloomwood. She thinks that when her boyfriend Luke's work means a trip to NY, that she'll be shopping and starring in her own TV show. Unfortunately...that just wouldn't make for a fun book....fortunately Sophie Kinsella knows just what to do to make a fun read. This is another good one in the Shopaholic series.

This is a fun book to read. The continuing saga of the shopaholic in a new town. This can be read as a stand alone.
With her shopping excesses (somewhat) in check and her career as a TV financial guru thriving, Becky's biggest problem seems to be tearing her entrepreneur boyfriend, Luke, away from work for a romantic country weekend. And worse, figuring out how to "pack light." But packing takes on a whole new meaning when Luke announces he's moving to New York for business - and he asks Becky to go with him! Before you can say "Prada sample sale," Becky has landed in the Big Apple, home of Park Avenue penthouses and luxury department stores. Surely it's only a matter of time until she becomes an American TV celebrity, and she and Luke are the toast of Gotham society. Nothing can stand in their way, especially with Becky's bills miles away in London. But then an unexpected disaster threatens her career prospects, her relationship with Luke, and her available credit line! Shopaholic Takes Manhattan - but will she have to return it?
