I loved this book, as well as the format of the story. There were so many stories and possibilities presented that I was afraid I would not be able to keep up. The author guided me to the ending with no problem. I worried how it would end! I will watch for this author's books again.

Kate White, as usual, knows how to weave a web of suspense throughout a story until the reader can't wait to finish the book. Skyler has continued to search for a resolution to her sister's disappearance several years ago. After she is notified of a huge bequest, she is drawn into the possibility that the bequest and her sister's death are connected with lies and suspicion. Midway through the book, the only character I trusted was her cat, Tuna!I want to read it again FOR THE FIRST TIME!

I loved this historical novel based loosely on the happenings in 1944 occupied Paris during the war. We were introduced to the famous singer Genevieve Dumont and her manager Max. The characters included a famous Nazi as well as members of the aristocracy and collaborators. As the story moved back and forth between locations, times and characters, it was continuously building the suspense. It was horrifying, as well as insightful, to imagine the danger that surrounded the brave people involved in subterfuge. Who could be trusted? Even though this is a 475 page book, it moved very quickly. A friend (thanks Becky) recommended this book and I'm so glad she did!

Often a sequel does not measure up to the first book. I was happy that this second book did not disappoint.
As we learn about Cussy's daughter, Honey Lovett, we are reminded of the conditions of rural Appalachia and the many prejudices against women and anyone non-white, which existed in the time period of this story. Needless to say this was commonplace throughout much of our country. There were laws that prohibited a white man from marrying anyone of color, which included, âBluesâ and women's rights were non existent. As the story begins, Honey's parents are arrested and taken to prison for this very reason. Honey is left to find ways to exist on her own with the help of their family doctor and attorney.
Traveling through the story, Honey tries hiding, running away, guardianship and emancipation. She eventually is hired to run the pack mule librarian route that her mother began years before. If she is caught, she will be taken to the children's prison and not released until she is 21 years old. She continues to âdodgeâ child services and has to protect herself from small minded, often dangerous people during her travels. Honey is not one to take the easy way out during her struggles and she is determined to keep her freedom.
I was fascinated and appalled while reading certain passages in this book. Some of my deceased family members were born in Kentucky, near Somerset, and West Virginia. I had not heard about âBluesâ before reading these books. I truly wish I could ask family about any stories they might recall during those years.

I've enjoyed previous B.A.Paris stories, but this one was not a favorite. I should have followed my rule of 50 pages in, don't like it, don't waste time on it. The premise of a missing wife and different suspects sounded promising. As the drama dragged on, I ended up skipping entire paragraphs. Not to say I won't read more from this author, I will. This one was lacking.

This second Troy Chance story was as entertaining as Learning to Swim. I sincerely hope that Sara Henry continues to write these outstanding suspense filled novels. I will read every one!

I thought I would try this new, to me, author. I love series books and have all three of the Steel Brothers Saga. I'm not sure I will read them all. I found the book flashbacks too dark for my liking. I wish I had known before starting...my fault for not checking it out better.

This is a long book, 418 pages. I enjoyed the first part of the story and then it slowed down for me. I had trouble keeping track of all the strange names, time periods, the good, the bad, etc. Karou is the primary character, or is she? There are two more books of this series on my bookshelf. The jury's out on the decision to carry on.

The main question of this entire book is what happened to Lena? Her family and friends have continued to hope for her safe return for 13 years. As the book continues, we hear of her captivity in a small cabin by a man that has complete and total control of âhis familyâ. Other possibilities are explored regarding another woman, children and a car accident that may hold some answers.
The book is upsetting & violent with twists and turns throughout. I wanted to stop reading but had to find out what happened and why. It is definitely not light reading. I gave it a 2 1/2 star rating simply because I had to find out how it ended.

The experience of reading this book was a dream on steroids about a fantasy world with magic as a commodity. Kate, being one of the gifted, gave up magic and potions after her mother's death to become a cop and single guardian of her younger brother. She unexpectedly has an offer to join a task force investigating "dirty magic" and join the battle between good & evil. Different, twisted and entertaining enough that I will read the next book.

I was fortunate enough to read an advanced copy of the newest Bailey Weggins series. As usual, Bailey gets involved, even though the case is over and the killer has been imprisoned for 10 years. A college friend, and daughter/sister of the victims, asks Bailey to look into the case further when DNA evidence proves the deceased "killer" was not guilty of the crime.
I must admit that I wasn't sure of the real killer's identity until late in the book. There were numerous possibilities and the story kept me interested throughout the investigations of each one.
I'm already looking forward to the next Bailey adventure.
