A great read but so darn depressing. Nothing can change history, I know, but I find it so hard to believe that people just didn't give up and move on...move out of the dust bowl....they were so stubborn, even at the cost of their childrens lives and of their own happiness. I find that so very sad.
This is a true historical read and I just couldn't put it down. I just wish I understood their mindset more.

This is a wonderful book about the dismal dust bowl era in Oklahoma in the early 30's. But more so, a beautiful story about a family struggling to survive the harsh conditions, trying to make the farm work, keep the animals alive, and keep their sanity. A father with a strong belief in God, a wife tired of the struggle and sadness, a teenage daughter who wants more of life, and a young mute son who is very bright, but very sick.
