This is a wonderful book about the dismal dust bowl era in Oklahoma in the early 30's. But more so, a beautiful story about a family struggling to survive the harsh conditions, trying to make the farm work, keep the animals alive, and keep their sanity. A father with a strong belief in God, a wife tired of the struggle and sadness, a teenage daughter who wants more of life, and a young mute son who is very bright, but very sick.
