She was raised in Hong Kong.She graduated from University of Texas, in 1968.She taught at University of San Francisco, Cornell University, and University of California, Santa Cruz.

Her work appeared in Zyzzyva.She will be co-editor with Judy Yung, and Russell C. Leong, on Him Mark Lai's autobiography, for the UCLA Asian American Center Press in 2009-2010.

She lives in San Francisco, California.
