This book is typical of the genre, and though I see it has earned an average of four stars, I'm afraid that I cannot agree. I could not sympathize or empathize with the hero or heroine; they were always falling all over each other and had no self-restraint whatsoever (a bit unusual for a duke, wouldn't you say?) I found the anti-heroine to be totally obnoxious, and even though we were looking for a comeuppance, even she got her happy/sappy ending. The ending was so pat and predictable, I could have read it with my eyes closed. I usually enjoy this author (maybe I was having a bad day), but this book left me with the blahs.

I Really enjoyed the book even though the lead male character, Royal, didn't ring quite true. Even though most of his adult life he appeared to be quite independent of his father and the British standards of living for the wealthy, he comes home and commits to an arranged marriage and continues to suffer and most of all makes the woman he falls for(not his intended) suffer to keep a promise to his dying father. A promise that has everything to do with wealth and title and nothing to do with love. In spite of this, I did like the story enough that I want to read the other two in the series - Rule and Reese's stories.

I loved this book. It was so fun and exciting. I couldn't put it down and really looked forward to the next two books. You find yourself really rooting for Royal and hoping that the best can happen. A really good read.

The first in a new historical romance series from Kat Martin about the brides of the Dewar nobleman. Royal is a Duke and his father's dying wish is that he marry the richest eligible woman in London. Because his father had been swindeled out of most of his money before his death, Royal (as the oldest of the brothers) feels an obligation to restore the kingdom to its prior glory. And when he proposes to Jocelyn who is perhaps the most beautiful heiress in London society, she is also the most self-centered, too. The dilemma is that Royal meets her traveling companion and cousin, Lily, and falls in love with her. So he is torn between keeping a promise and doing his duty to his family, and marrying the woman that he truly loves.

Lots of romance and a bit of intrigue when Royal and Lily get involved in a sting operation to try and recover some of his father's money. Interesting characters, too.

I'm looking forward to meeting Reece's bride. I think that's the second story.

Martin's Bride Trilogy are wonderful books that have quite engaging story lines. I have not found any of Martin's books that I did not enjoy but if you are new to her, this is a good place to start.

Miss Kat has a unique mind that twists and turns and keeps you from puting her books down. It is interestiing to read that the "elite" of English society could and would defy convention and love someone not of their "class". The story keeps you entertained and the twists keep you wanting more. Royal has his ideas of how a young woman should be and he keeps finding out that women have their own wants and needs. 'Tis a great read!

Beautiful story! Written wonderfully and so passionate. I loved it, and could feel for each of the characters. I love the way Kat Martin makes each character so realistic, like you think, 'I know a person just like this character.' I can't wait to read the others in this series!
