Let me say that the series of Spencer, P.I. novels by Robert B. Parker are one of my favorite series of all time. They are funny and exciting. And you just can't help but love Spencer who is smart , witty and totally irreverant. They are great reads, mysteries with plenty of chuckles.
This is one of his best and I highly recommend it !

Parker at his best. Spenser's nemisis, Rugar (the gray man) appears in this book. We have our old favorites, Susan and Hawk in their usual supporting roles. Lots of twists and turns, but if you are paying attention, you will guess the suprise ending. With the short chapters in this book, it is perfect to take on the plane or the waiting room, if you won't be embarrassed by the ocassional chuckle one gets from Parker's style. One of my favorite Parker books.

Robert Parker's books are well worth reading if for no other reason than the zippy dialogue!! Not too much plot on this one, but fun!

One of Parker's best and I'm a fan - have read them all. Spencer, Susan and Hawk battle the "gray man" once again. The plot is tight and fast-paced with a surprise ending. I read the book in two days and didn't want it to end. Hooray for Robert Parker!

If you have not read the exploits of Spenser start with the first in the series. Parker ties all these books together and even includes the Randall and Stone series as well. They take place in a largely real world world including true landmarks and established businesses mixed in with the fictional places needed by Parker to avoid legal entanglements.

I would love to see a star desire to make these books into movies (a la Selleck with the Jesse Stone series.) Spenser is a long in the tooth hard boiled detective who remains timeless. Not bad for a Korean war vet, Spenser still mixes it up thugs and wins.

Probably his penultimate book before his death, and better than average. Puts a human face on his old foe, the gray man. All the usual snappy dialog with Susan and Hawk. After all this time, no longer makes you laugh out loud, but still amusing. Like all of his books, the sentences and chapters are short so it reads very fast. Plot is tricky and will keep you guessing till the end.

If you like Spenser, you'll like this book. There were several "laugh out loud" comments between Hawk and Spenser. A quick and fun read.

Classic Robert B. Parker, I liked it.

Mediocre, for Mr Parker. Didn't like the ending, as I thought it was too wussy for Spencer. Overall though, I like Spenser and his sidekick Hawk and this book was an easy, quick read.

I liked this book a lot; however, it's not as good as his Spenser series.

I could NOT listen to this CD. "she said," "He said" "THey said" "Jess said" "we said" the dialogue got on my last nerve.
