My Review:
This book started out slow for me. It seemed to be about a Law School scam and the deportation of some immigrants. Two separate storylines! Then about 1/3 into the book, I got really hooked and the storylines came together and it became a real page-turner. The characters were quite fascinating and their plan to make money made it a "root for the bad guys" book. I had thoughts in the beginning of giving up on the book but I am sure glad that I didn't. Grisham is a great storyteller and you just have to go with the flow for an enjoyable ride. I'm looking forward to reading another of his books real soon. I would highly recommend this book to those who like fun reading experiences.

Three law school students, Mark, Todd and Zola, are up to their eyeballs in student loan debt and are unsuccessfully trying to acquire high paying positions in law firms with one semester left. Their close friend, Gordy, overwhelmed by his student loan and pending nuptials, jumps off a bridge and dies, leaving them all devastated. His death changes their life perspective and they decide that they will not finish law school and will instead pretend to be attorneys, form their own law firm and make big bucks from clients who don't realize that they are not attorneys. As one might project, this will eventually go badly and things will begin to unravel. This was a cleverly written suspenseful story with entertaining characters and a highly enjoyable read.
The start of the book seemed slow to me, but once we got into the middle, things started to occur more rapidly. Enjoyed the book - good read.
I do enjoy reading Grishma's books. They are always well written and interesting stories that usually enlighten a bit too.
I had high hopes for this story, especially in light of how student loans have gotten frankly out of hand and mainly mostly debt the use of hardly ever will see pay back. Yet while these 'youths' grasping for a 'better life' finally wake up to the fact they have have been DUPED. But instead of making a resolution to be responsible and make a positive change in their lives, they decide to see if the can basically scam the scam artist that sucked them in.
We truly live in a human world of 'blame and excuse'. No roll up one's sleeves and carving an honest, self pride based life . . .

Another suspenseful novel from Mr. Grisham. Three law school friends, who through no fault, or maybe just a little fault of their own, are on the run. Fast paced and fun, this is a great distraction from the really crummy world we really live in.
Many were disappointed in this Grisham book, but I enjoyed it. I felt for the three madcap individuals of this story. They quit third year law school when they discovered a scam and proceeded to play lawyer anyway. They all had over $200,000 in debt and no chance of landing a job.
I found myself routing for the three, as they planned elaborate vengeance on the high-muck-a-muck VIP's responsible for the snow-job and rejoiced in the outcome.

Another fabulous Grisham tale that I could not put down! A most unusual story about 3 law school students who pulled off a huge scam/fraud and their resulting adventures. Thoroughly enjoyed it!

Definitely not a favorite. Maybe for me, too close to the truth as I personally know very many young adults whose lives are now destroyed because of student debt for worthless degrees from no tier schools. Not the subject of fiction.
Its been a few books since John Grisham has been able to captivate me like he did with "The Rooster Bar". In this book, four law students go through the ups and downs of living the life of a law student. The stress of classes, grades, upcoming job interviews/placement, and of course, student loans.
Early on on the book there is a tragedy that they must deal with. One that brings them to their knees. From there the students have to decide, is this the life they want to live? Is being a lawyer really worth all the hard work and all the investment they've made in themselves?
Throughout the book they question their motives and ideals. Questionable decisions are made. They even get in over their head, but how will these young students pull themselves up?
There is so much going on in this book that I feel like if I give too much, it will ruin the book for you. I will say this, if you enjoy good legal thrillers, then I highly recommend you give this one a read. Its a real page turner and shows me that Grisham still has it.
