A mystery, love story, historical novel all rolled into a whopping good read. Good through and through!

A history based thriller, very thought-provoking about the mysteries of the Russian royal Romanov family who were supposedly executed by the Bolsheviks. Their mass grave was uncovered in the 1980's and it was revealed that, just like rumor had suggested , the remains of the bodies of Alexi and Anatasia were not there. What was their fate?

Interesting historical novel .While fictional, it gives knowledge to the reader about the history of Russia before the communist regime took over. Also adds to the mystery of what really happened to Alexie & Anastasia.

A historical mystery, what if Anastasia survived the massacre of the Romanov family? in the style of John Grisham (attorney's solving mysteries and facing hit men) and Dan Brown (alternative history)

I enjoyed the other 2 Steve Berry books that I read but this one needed some serious editing, especially the first half of the book. There were so many foolish mistakes - 'blistering wind' is one of my favorites -that it was almost comical. It could have been very good but, alas, it wasn't.

I am new to Dan Berry (this was the second book of his that I have read), and I find his books to be wonderful. If you liked Dan Brown's Da Vinci Code and Angels and Demons, you will LOVE any of Berry's books. This is fast-paced historical thriller that will keep you on the edge of your seat!

The Romanov story is very interesting and I enjoyed reading about it. Not knowing much about Russian history I was not aware of what was truthful and accurate and what wasn't until I read his excerpt in the back of the book. Much of this book is based on historical facts, which in itself is fascinating. In essence, I really enjoyed this book, but at times, I have difficulty following Berry's train of thought as he puts his thoughts on paper.

It starts out pretty slowly and I was about to put it down. For anybody thinking about putting it down before the first eighty or so pages, don't! It really picks up speed after a slow start, and you will definately enjoy it then.

A crisply written, fast-paced novel. An imaginative story asking the question that until recently has perplexed many historians - did any Ronanov's, specifically Alexi and/or Alexandra, survive the massacre that claimed their family? Although a work of fiction (considering the recent DNA evidence unearthed in Russia), Berry builds a compelling plot asking the serious question - is there a surviving direct decendent of Czar Nicholas, an heir to the Romanov throne, and what would that mean to present day Russia?

Berry (along with his first novel, The Amber Room) looks into a little understood time and place in the world - Imperial Russia. I found both of these novels highly entertaining as are his subsequent Cotton Malone novels. Intelligent, quick reads that do not get overly bogged down in historical minutia'.

What a disappointment! Just like his first thriller, The Amber Room, this book was full of improbable chases, murders, unsympathetic characters, and torture. The premise was interesting- could one of the Romanovs have survived the execution of the Royal Family in 1916? I forced myself to read to the end. This was no DaVinci code!

Book Description
Ekaterinburg, Russia: July 16, 1918. Ten months have passed since Nicholas II's reign was cut short by revolutionaries. Tonight, the White Army advances on the town where the Tsar and his family are being held captive by the Bolsheviks. Nicholas dares to hope for salvation. Instead, the Romanovs are coldly and methodically executed.

Moscow: Present Day. Atlanta lawyer Miles Lord, fluent in Russian and well versed in the country's history, is thrilled to be in Moscow on the eve of such a momentous event. After the fall of Communism and a succession of weak governments, the Russian people have voted to bring back the monarchy. The new tsar will be chosen from the distant relatives of Nicholas II by a specially appointed commission, and Miles' job is to perform a background check on the Tsarist candidate favored by a powerful group of Western businessmen. But research quickly becomes the least of Miles' concerns when he is nearly killed by gunmen on a city plaza.

Suddenly Miles is racing across continents, shadowed by nefarious henchmen. At first, his only question is why people are pursuing him. But after a strange conversation with a mysterious Russian, who steers Miles toward the writings of Rasputin, he becomes desperate to know more most important, what really happened to the family of Russia's last tsar?

His only companion is Akilina Petrov, a Russian circus performer sympathetic to his struggle, and his only guide is a cryptic message from Rasputin that implies that the bloody night of so long ago is not the last chapter in the Romanovs' story . . . and that someone might even have survived the massacre. The prophecy's implications are earth-shattering not only for the future of the tsar and mother Russia, but also for Miles himself.

Steve Berry, national bestselling author of the phenomenal thriller The Amber Room, once again delves into rich historical fact to produce an explosive page-turner. In The Romanov Prophecy, the authentic and the speculative meld into a fascinating and exceptionally suspenseful work of fiction.

My Review
I have always been fascinated by the execution of the Romanovs and was not disappointed in Steve Berry's Romanov Prophecy. He did a great job weaving the historical facts and the prophecy of Rasputin with a bit of his imagination. I found this book to be very captivating as the twists and turns kept me riveted to the story until the very end. The characters were well-developed and the writing was excellent and well researched. I would highly recommend this book to those who love Russian history and I look forward to reading more from this author.

This is a "what if" book! After the fall of communism and a series of weak leaders, the Russian people have voted to bring back a tsar to be chosen from one of the distant relatives of Nicholas II. Mystery, action and suspense follow when it becomes known that Rasputin had left a prophecy that the murder of the Romanovs was not the last chapter in their story. Earth shattering implications for the future of a tasar and for Russia itself

I really enjoyed this page-turner from Berry. I have read a few of his Cotton Malone series but as much as I enjoyed those, I liked this one even more.

The book uses a lot of history related to Nicholas and Alexandra and the Romanov's to build a really fascinating story about the possible reinstatement of a tsar in Russia. Lawyer Miles Lord is in Moscow performing a background check on possible candidates to be chosen from the relatives of Nicholas II but when he starts to unearth possible evidence of a direct descendant, his life is put in jeopardy by those who are seeking to have a puppet tsar on the thrown including the Russian mafiya.

The book is based upon the theory that one or more of the Romanov children escaped when the rest of the Imperial family was murdered. Of course, the most well known child that could have escaped was Anastasia who has been the basis of movies and books. The plot is plausible and Berry uses history as a basis for his story. The book includes some good chase scenes and keeps one turning the pages. Berry also used a very good premise for how Anastasia and Alexi may have survived making the novel even more plausible. While the premise of a Russian return to tsarism may be far fetched, the current state of Russia and its attempts at a democracy make it perhaps not such a bad idea!

Overall, I really enjoyed this one and I will probably be reading more about the Romanov's. I have a copy of Nicholas and Alexandra by Robert Massie that I have been meaning to read for years. Maybe this has motivated me to do so.

The question about what really may have happened to the Romanov family is a tantilizing thought for history buffs, or even for those who love to read fiction with a healthy dose of reality mixed into the prose.

The Romanov Prophecy moves fast and wastes no time drawing the reader into the what-if's and the maybes. This is honestly one of the best reads available.

I really enjoyed this- the Romanov's are always fascinating and the premise here is that their closest living relative will be part of a restoration to Imperial Russia in the post-communism atmosphere of the present. The big question the book seeks to answer (and does answer) is- did any of the immediate family survive?
