I really enjoyed this book! I was skeptical from disappointment in some of Patterson's recent releases. This one does not disappoint at all. Literally a surprise a minute, you don't know what to expect! I could not turn the pages quickly enough! I don't want to spoil the surprises by giving any description, read the book and you will know why!

Every James Patterson fan has a right to be skeptical when he releases a new book. Will it be any good or will it be too similar to many of the recent books he's released. I became hooked on Kiss the Girls and devoured every Patterson book I could find. I had no expectations when I picked up and begin reading "The Quickie." This book with the strange title had me hooked from the beginning and trying to make time to read this book as fast as I could.

Lauren is married to Paul. One day, she drives downtown hoping to surprise him at lunch. She spots him going into a hotel with a georgeous young blonde. This betrayal tears her apart and of course allows her to justify having her own fling with a coworker. That's as much of the plot as I'll give away. Let's just say that once Lauren has the quickie, an amazing amount of things go wrong. Lauren is faced with many decisions and dilemmas that force her to decide what really matters in her life.

The plot hooked me from the beginning and carried me through the novel. Still, as I read I kept hoping the characters would be worth caring for. For awhile, none of the characters are sympathetic. Is Lauren good or bad? What about her husband Paul? What about Scott Thayer, the man Lauren has the affair with? But don't worry, Patterson (and random co-author) know what they are doing. The book hurls twists and turns at you to where you are never sure about Lauren's plans to survive the disaster she created by having that one "quickie." There aren't any cheap plot gimmicks used either. This is a straight up thriller.

This is the best stand-alone Patterson book I've read in a long time. I recommend this book to all Patterson fans who may have given up on the author. If you are considering reading Patterson for the first time, I recommend starting at the beginning of the Cross books or read this one. You won't be disappointed.

Another Patterson thriller. A few twists and turn and poof it's over. Great book, personally felt a little cheated with the ending, but you can't always get what you want if you don't write the book yourself. All in all very good.

I thought this book was great. It was tough to put it down once I got into it. I love how James Patterson keeps the chapters short and then never lets you want to stop reading. This book definitely hooked me and I couldn't wait to see what happened in the end.......

A women sees her husband enter a hotel with another woman and then he lies about it. Seeking revenge the woman decides to have a one night stand with a co-worker. She hooks up with the other man and when he leaves his apartment she witnesses her husband killing the other man. The big problem - both the victim and wife are cops and she is assigned to solve the crime. Soon the woman is busy trying to cover up for her husband without damaging her own career. It isn't long before she discovers some awful truths about her lover and her husband. In typical Patterson fashion the story moves rapidly along and there is a continual series of surprises before a stunn ing end. I read it in two days and it is a great end of the season fun read.

This was another winner for James Patterson. This story had so many twists and turns that you were never sure when it was to be over. It started out so simple and within minutes you were caught up in the story; and each of the characters had a story of their own to tell. There were surprises at every turn up to and including the end.
This would make a great movie. I would like to give credit to the c0-author, Michael Ledwidge, also. This makes me want to see what else he may have written.

Maybe I missed something when I read this book. I didn't think it was very good at all. I found it to be one ridiculous plot twist/coincidence after another. About halfway through the book I just wanted to say "Gimme a break already!" For serious crime and psychological thrillers I'd read Dennis Lehane or Dean Koontz any day over Patterson...

After about 5 pages into the book, I thought it was going to be a chore to finish the book. The main character is not very admirable, and the writing style is very frenetic and so overly dramatic. After wading through several more pages, I did start to get into the twists of the plotline, and the writing style eased up a bit. Overall an easy, quick entertaining read.

Definetly NOT my favorite James Patterson book. The characters didn't seem very fleshed out to me at all, they all seemed kind of like cardboard characters. They just didn't seem real. The story didn't flow almost like it was written without knowing how it was going to end. Patterson tried to throw in his usual surprises, but nothing surprised me, I saw everything coming.
If you are a diehard Patterson fan you will want to read it just because he wrote it. However, this isn't the book for a first time Patterson reader.

Could not get into this book as quickly as other James Patterson books, but the action picked up along the way. Can't say it's one of my favorites. But it is a study in how far a person will go to save him/herself and you feel the pressures Lauren, the main character, goes through. In addition, there is a message that you never know what a person is really like.

I was a little disappointed by this book. I normally like James Patterson's characters, but the lead in this one was a little weak. The mystery in this book was overshadowed by her personal inability to make strong decisions. She took the easy way out. I am not an erotica fan, but just to let those of you who are know, the erotica is all in the first 2 chapters and the cover.

This was one of the most exciting books that Patterson has written. I wonder how much can be attributed to Michael Ledwidge. I will definitely watch for Ledwidge's books in the future. There were so many twists to the story, I could not figure out the end, I usually can guess the ending about three fourths of the way through.

Lauren Stillwell seems to have a good marriage. Sure, her husband Paul has been a little distant lately. But, all marriages have their ups and downs, right? Deciding to surprise Paul with an impromptu lunch date one day, Lauren unexpectedly catches him entering a hotel with another woman. To make matters worse, she's a younger woman.

Shaken, hurt, and assuming the worst, Lauren decides to go on a little payback mission. Unfortunately, her night of passion with a coworker ends tragically, and changes Lauren's life forever. Her little quickie sets off a chain of events that turns this once moral and upstanding woman into a manipulating liar and hypocrite. In the end though, Lauren finds out that even though fate can be cruel, sometimes cruel can be kind. And, sometimes fate willingly gives us a second chance.

The Quickie is a fast read; full of twists, turns, and plenty of surprises. In addition, you get a healthy dose of passion, mystery, and sweet, sweet revenge. Good for a time when you don't want to think, you just want to enjoy a good read.

This book lives up to it's name...it is a very quick read! I have not read too many Patterson novels, so I can't really say with any authority how well it stacks up to his others. For the most part, I enjoyed it...it was a page-turner, and kept me interested. But I think the plot bordered on totally unbelievable. It was just a real stretch for me to believe it could have happened. If that doesn't bother you, you will probably love this book. If you are like me and you still want your fiction to be somewhat believable, you might want to steer clear of this one...

This book is perfect for people who have a short attention span or only have 5 minutes at a time to read. The chapters are only 2 to 3 pages long and each one quickly introduces a new conflict and just as quickly resolves it. The story is about a woman who has a one-night-stand and then witnesses her husband murder the guy she has a fling with. She spends the book trying to cover up the murder...BUT with every chapter there is a new revelation and a new secret uncovered. You will never expect the surprises of each chapter!!!

One thing is certain since James Patterson started pairing with co-authors. You never know which James Patterson you are getting when you buy a book. This one doesn't resemble any James Patterson I remember; but, that doesn't keep it from being an entertaining, if slightly less than credible, summer vacation read. The characters are only penciled in and the first person narrative by a female detective may be hard for a man to relate to (we being as shallow as we tend to be) but the plot has enough hills and valleys to be an interesting trip. On the whole it is worth trading a used book for but I wouldn't encourage this kind of thing by actually paying full price (and royalties)for what you think is a James Patterson novel. Instead, trade for one of his earlier solo efforts.

Everything was just too easy -- the author made up too-convenient solutions to problems in the plot. It was not believable, and didn't go into detail when it should have. But how can you go into detail when what's happening is just rediculous? Maybe better to gloss over the details -- which he does a lot of.

Why, oh why is James Patterson a bestselling author? I seriously don't get it. I stopped reading his books several years ago because I found that they just seemed to be getting worse and worse. Then last summer my mom-in-law gave me this book as a gift. It languished on my shelf until now and frankly I wasn't missing anything. The plot, so to speak, involves Lauren Stillwell, a police officer who finds out her husband is cheating on her. So instead of confronting him she decides to have a âquickie' with a co-worker. While looking out the window of the room where she has her assignation Lauren sees something so shocking her life is turned upside down, and she can't tell anyone, because that would reveal her affair. The plot was dumb, the characters cardboard cut-outs that I cared not one whit for, the dialogue trite, when not laughable, the writing pedestrian and the ending ridiculous. Awful is too nice a word to use when describing this book.â

This is by far the worst James Patterson book I've ever read. The story line had great potential to be good, but the author throws in too many "twists" and "game changers" to where the plot becomes unbelievable. I was rolling my eyes through the entire book.

As usual, Patterson delivers an edge of your seat til the very end. Nothing explicit - contrary to what you might think by the title. Full of plot twists and turns to the very end.

This story was interesting, in that when I started to read, it was starting to read like a mystery/romance novel. Since I don't really care for romance novels, I posted it on PaperBack Swap, and set it on my shelf.
Fast forward about a month. I found myself without a new book to read. (Heaven forbid!) So I took this book out again and started reading it again. Once I got thru the 3rd chapter, I was surprised to find just how wrong I was! There are so many twists and turns, the reader just cannot second-guess the next move!
For a change from the Alex Cross, Michael Bennet, etc. type of novels, I highly recommend this book.

As all of JP books, has a crazy twist you would not expect. Great read and short for those who may not have a lot of extra reading time. My husband and I both loved this book.

I didn't really have any sympathy for the main character in the beginning of this book; she got into the mess herself and just kept making it worse. Then later there were some things that made me feel a little bad for her, but she wasn't the most likable character ever, even then. There wasn't really much mystery in it, which is why most Patterson fans (at least the ones I know) read his books. They threw in some things to make it seem like there was GOING to be a mystery and then it would just fizzle out. It's feeling like another co-written dud for Patterson in my book.

Beautiful hardback copy.

Lauren Stillwell is not your average damsel in distress. When the NYPD cop discovers her husband leaving a hotel with another woman, she decides to beat him at his own game. But her revenge goes dangerously awry, and she finds her world spiraling into a hell that becomes more terrifying by the hour.
In a further twist of fate, Lauren must take on a job that threatens everything she stands for. Now, she's paralyzed by a deadly secret that could tear her life apart. With her job and marriage on the line, Lauren's desire for retribution becomes a lethal inferno as she fights to save her livelihood--and her life.
Patterson takes us on a twisting roller-coaster ride of thrills in his most gripping novel yet. This story of love, lust and dangerous secrets will have readers' hearts pounding to the very last page.

Excellent one of Patterson's best! I took a whole summer deciding if I wanted to read it or buy it. Once I did WOW the characters were really popping off the pages. The surprise ending was so good I re-read it at the end out loud to my mother because I couldn't believe it. Only Honeymoon has come this close to being this good.

When she sees her husband with another woman, Lauren Stillwell's heart nearly stops beating. Their marriage is perfect, she has a great job, she loves her life. But his betrayal turns her into someone she never imagined she could be--a woman lusting for revenge.
It was supposed to be a quickie, a way to even the score. But Lauren's night of passion takes a shocking turn when she witnesses an unexpected, unbelievable, deadly crime. Her horrifying secret threatens to tear her life apart, pitting her need to uncover the truth against her fear that the truth may be too horrible to bear. And whichever choice she makes could cost her dearly--her job, her marriage, even her life.
