The first three quarters of the book was fast paced and really fun...the final quarter dragged on too long.

I haven't read this book, but my friend Chris (who gave it to me to put up onto the site) really enjoyed the book: he says he especially likes the main character and the humor/wit in the book. It's not a "funny book" he says, but the main character is a sarcastic guy.

Sexy, humorous and fast paced. A puzzle with Detective John Corey, who DeMille has created. Takes place in rural eastern Long Island.

The best DeMille I've read yet. Very funny yet serious and that's hard to do. Love his writing style and you will too.

What a wonderful start to this series. I will definitely be reading more. This book had a plot that you couldn't see through. There were enough twists and turns to keep me turning pages wanting more. This is an itricately plotted thriller that is full of wit and sarcasm. There was great character development which is why I have to read the next book.

What a great ride!! Loved the character of Det. John Corey. He combines a razor sharp wit with a desregard for certain rules and regulations....leading to a successful catch of the killer. I alternately held my breath and laughed out loud. DeMille doesn't disappoint...ever! Can't wait to start book #2!

I think I've read most of Mr Demille's stuff but this, as far as I'm concerned was just not up to my Demille standards..

This is vintage Nelson DeMille at the peak of his originality and the height of his powers...Wounded in the line of duty, NYPD homicide cop John Corey is convalescing in rural eastern Long Island when an attractive young couple he knows is found shot to death on the family patio. The victims were biologists at Plum Island, a research site rumored to be an incubator for germ warfare.Suddenly, a local double murder takes on shattering global implications -- and thrusts Corey and two extraordinary women into a dangerous search for the secret of PLUM ISLAND....Great thriller up to the last few pages.

So so story . Interesting enough to keep reading. NY Homicide dective, on leave for being shot, takes up residence in Uncles cabin on Long Island. Stumbles on double murder, solves it with help. Buried pirate treasure.

DeMille gets a little wordy, but I still couldn't put it down. Some twists and turns and some insights into bureacracy, fiction or fact?

Even though I live on Long Island and can relate to many of the places mentioned in the book (Yes, Plum Island, Southold , Claudio's and the "haunts" are real), this is a great fast paced book that can be enjoyed by everyone...Gripping!
