Another great book. Loved the characters of this book. Abigail is one tough lady, one not to be dealt with lightly. Rebecca is soft in the beginning, but she toughens up and Huey, what can I say, he is a character.

A low country tale.
I enjoyed the author's lush descriptions of "arrogantly shabby" Pawley's Island as well as her interesting characters -- their quirks, friendships, & spiritual journeys. And the best part is bad guy gets his just desserts!
A Lowcountry tale by the author of Shem Creek. It's a lively story about friendships and family , Southern Style. Very entertaining about life along the coast.

Frank's tales the the Low Country are spell binding.
A decent beach read.
I am a mystery fan, but I liked this book. It takes place in the Low Country on the coast of South Carolina, so the setting was new to me. I liked the characters and the plot, but I felt that all of the main characters were too smart, too beautiful, too rich, too priveleged to be true. You knew that things would work out well for them and they would be redeemed. On the other hand, the villians were too stupid, ignorant, sloppy, etc. It was kind of like a Lifetime TV movie. As I looked at the descriptions of the author's other books, it seemed more of the same on a different SC island, so I passed on them. It's a good "quick read" for the beach or an airplane ride, so enjoy it for what it is.

I felt like I was back in Charleston. This is a woman's book. It is not chick-lit, and it is not a romance novel. It is just a nice story about four people. Bring this book to the beach, or take it on a plane. It is just a fun book.
Usually, I do not have much to say about Dot Franks books. They start out pretty good but the endings are horrible. This is one of her better books. I truly enjoyed it. It was a story about a lawyer who was living on the island for a few years after the deaths of her husband and son. She is a good friend of Huey who owns an art gallery. He introduces Abigail to Rebecca, an artist. There is something about Abigail they like and they become friends. They discover Rebecca is estranged from her slime ball husband and 2 children. The divorce gave custody to the father unfairly. So Abigail decides to help Rebecca win her kids back as well as some compensation from her loser husband. There is a happiness and sadness and a revealed secret at the end. And for once the ending had closure and it made sense. The only part that didnt seem real to me was Abigail who didnt seem as devastated as one would be after losing their son and husband. Not to mention, she gets involved with the man who she had an affair with which contributed to the death of her husband. So, I am giving this a 4. I liked the characters and the story and it was by far the best Low Country tale I have read so far
Another wonderful lowcountry read by Frank. I love her characters, and especially revel in her descriptions of the oceanside life.
Good characterizations with some attractive people and some not so attractive. Excellent depiction of locale.
I love visiting the Lowcountry of Frank's books. I wish that I could smell the sea, eat the seafood, walk on the beaches and live in the communities she writes of. There are always problems to be solved, just like real life; and there is always a growth and freeing of the real person who inhabits the books.

If you are looking for Pawley's Island, then you are probably already a fan of Dorothea Benton Frank ... so, simply put, this book doesn't disappoint. Frank is excellent at capturing the flavor of the Deep South - it's characters, it's settings, it's conflicts. Add that to a well-developed plot & you have a great story!
If you aren't already familiar with Ms. Franks work, do a little investigating, read some reviews & see if she is an author you would enjoy. I know I do & my mother and I eagerly await each of her new books!

This was my first book of hers that I read and I absolutely LOVED it! I went out the day I finished it and bought 4 other of her books!

This is a great Southern Low Country story that is perfect to unwind and relax with...makes you want to head to the beach as soon as possible!
I tried, but never really liked this book. The characters are shallow, predictable and stereotypical. It's very politically correct (to the point of being annoying), but at the same time the "help" are all black ... just didn't like it.

A very entertaining, funny tale about the Low Country and some odd characters...very well written, somewhat predictable, but good, none the less.
