This was a fairly quick read, and a lovely story. Set in Appalachia during the 1920's, this book is about the marriage of a Cherokee girl who marries a white man and leaves her family to live with his. I love the way her character is written, with strength and wisdom -- as she learns to fit into a different world, to deal with hardships and betrayals, and ultimately find a unique way to demonstrate forgiveness.

One of the best books I've picked up in a while! Mr. House writes with such a lyrical pen - his descriptions are beautiful. While reading, I sometimes felt I was watching a movie in my head. I read the book in one day...I couldn't put it down!

I love everything I've ever read by Silas House. His stories are so engrossing, his characters so finely crafted--his books are gems. This takes place in rural Kentucky and tells the story of Vine, a Cherokee woman who marries a white man and comes to live in the tiny town of God's Creek. Highly recommended!
