Abandoned after 50 pages ...

Sophie Hannah isn't the greatest stylist in the world, but her novels usually have a clever concept that keep you turning the pages (until the wheels come off, at the end, and you realize that you have wasted several hours of your life on the modern equivalent of It was all a dream ...)

This one is different because I found the concept of the novel impossible to get on board with, from the start. You send you child to a choir school, where you are not allowed to see or speak to him for months on end. Right. You move to a gated community that is like something from the worst dystopian novel you have ever read. OK. You are expected to read on, as if this is all very normal ...
