This was an gripping mystery which kept me guessing throughout. I realized after I started it that it was the third book in the Pierce Quincy series, but I enjoyed it anyway. I liked the characters Quincy, Rainie and Kim and was rooting for them to outwit the killer. Good twists and turns as both the heroes and the villain set up obstacles against the other. Now to find the first two books, The Perfect Husband and The Third Victim!

Three-quarters of the way through the book I became riveted to every page. So tempted to speed read to find out who the murderer was -- so many possibilities but there is only one. Definitely going to read another one of her books.

This was my first Lisa Gardner book and I'm hooked!!

FBI Special Agent Pierce Quincy is certain his daughter's death due to a car accident was no accident and he's determined to prove it.

From the back of the book....What do you do when a killer targets the people you love the most? When he knows how to make them vulnerable? When he knows the same about you?

This is one of those late night page-turners. Don't start it if you have to go to work the next day!!

This is a story about an FBI agent and his former girlfriend trying to stop a pyschopathic killer from continuing his murder spree on the FBI agent's family. The characters worked well together and the story has a good flow to it. It keeps you interested in reading the book because of the suspense as to who is doing the killing and why.

I recommend it highly.

What do you do when a killer targets the people you love the most? When he knows how to make them vulnerable? When he knows the same about you? These are the questions that haunt FBI Special Agent Pierce Quincy. The police say his daughter's death was an accident. Quincy will risk everything to learn the truth-and there's only one person willing to help. Ex cop Rainie Connor had once been paired professionally-and personally-with the brilliant FBI profiler. He helped her through the darkest days of her life. Now it's time for Rainie to return the favor.
But this killer is like none these 2 hard-boiled pros have ever encountered. This twisted psychopath has an isatiable hunger for revenge...and for fear. As the clock ticks down to one unspeakably intimate act of vengeance, the only way Rainie can unmask this killer is to step directly in his murderous path. She will become a murder waiting got happen. She will become...the next accident.

I did not get around to reading this book but this is what is written on the back cover. It sounded good.

Took a few pages for this book to get started but once it did - WHOA! The author kept making reference to a previous book which I had read a long time ago. I remember the characters from then, but the storyline I had forgotten so the references kind of threw me. But after that got straight, then the characters were really moving. It was kind of like "I know who did it, just go ahead and get them" and then they do a complete 180° and I was so wrong!! Very good book - recommend to crime/mystery readers and looking forward to the next one!

This book was great! This is the third book of the Quincy-Rainie ongoing series and they just keep getting better. In order the books are:

"The Perfect Husband" intro of Pierce Quincy
"The Third Victim" intro of Rainie Conner
"The Next Accident" intro of Kimberly Quincy
"The Killing Hour" intro of Michael "Mac" McCormack
"Gone"
"Say Goodbye"

I have not read the last two books but the rest have all been great reads. I would suggest reading these books in proper order just to understand and appreciate the dynamics of each character and their interaction with each other. However, there is enough background info given in each book so that they don't necessarily need to be read in order.

The third Quincy/Rainie and now Kimberly novel. Although you don't have to have read the first two, it helps to know the history as it comes up a lot during the course of this novel. Gardner's usual hard nosed suspense and peripheral romance is present here. The writing is intelligent, the drama real and the characters flawed yet very likeable.

Excellent installment of the Quincy/Rainie series. I didn't see the 'twist' coming. I would definitely recommend reading THIS book before you read "The Killing Hour" (Quincy/Rainie, bk 4). This was a great book, couldn't hardly lay it down, keep wanting to know what was gonna happen next.

What do you do whe a killer targets the people you love the most? How do you protect them when he knows their most secet fears and hidden desires? When he knows just when to strike? And, most of all, when he knows the same about you?
These are the questions that haunt FBI Special Agent Pierce Quincy. the offical police report concluded that his daughter's death was an accident. Amanda Quincy was driving drunk when her car careened out of control. Pierce knew about his daughter's problemwith alcohol. He knew about her loneliness and insecurity. And so, he is certain, did the man who killed her. Quincy is prepared to risk everything to learn the dangerous truth abut Amanda's death-and there's only one person willing to help.

Rainie Conner knows all to well the dark side of the human heart. An ex-cop haunted by her own violet past, she had once been paired professionally-and personally-with the brilliant, supremely logical FBI profiler. Quincey had helped Raine through the harrowing case that shattered her career and left her charged with first degree murder. Now it's time for Rainie to return the favor.

but this killer is like none these two hard-boiled pros have ever encoutered. this twisted psychopath has an insatiable hunger for revenge-and for fear. He isn't satisfied with taking his victim's lives. He wants to get inside their minds, strip them of every defense, render them powerless, to resist. He's already killed twice; now he's taunting Quincy and Rainie by making it no secret who his next victim will be: Quincey's only surviving daughter.

the killer's plan is chilling, brillant, and unstoppable. The cops wont help; the FBI can;t be trusted. As the clock ticks down to the final minutes of one unspeakably intimate act of vengeance, the only way Rainie can unmask this faceless killer is to step directly in his murderous path. She will become a murder waiting to happen, She will be...
the next accident.
