This is a quick read. It's about dogs and love...love between humans, and dogs, and friends, and lovers. It's the story of a group of neighbors in New York City who meet while walking their dogs; a year in the life of a group of people and their pets. There is a little romance, and a lot of unexpected friendship. A fun read especially if you are a dog lover and need a bit of cheering up.
I didn't love this book... The dogs were great, the humans flat and unlikable. The premise behind the book is really fun, but the actual story is a bore.

This book was one of the most enjoyable Cathleen Schine books that I have read. The interactions of a neighborhood peak your interest and you can't help getting involved in each one's situation. The colorful characters and their internal struggles to say or do the right thing makes you wonder, what would happen if they had chosen differently. The buzz of the neighborhood will stick with you.

If you're a fan of "44 Scotland Street," you will love this book. If you haven't read any Alexander McCall Smith, you will still enjoy this book.

At first, I was thinking, "What is going on? When is this all going to make sense?" But finally, as the characters began interacting with each other, forming relationships and breaking them at the same time, I really began to care for some of them deeply. ++Spoiler alert!++ And I was quite sad when Beatrice got sick. I kept looking at the cover, thinking, "NOOOOOO! Not Beatrice!"
I finished reading this book last night and closed it with a satisfied sigh. The literary equivalent of a light summer meal: not heavy or particularly filling, but enjoyable and social.
