I'll give this one just an ok--

I am a Jack Reacher fan BUT I was disappointed with this one--

there are 3 storylines: (1)gets reinstated into the military and then arrested for a crime from years and years ago (which he didn't do) and needed a lawyer for this one (2) had returned to meet and invite out to dinner the new CO, who he had talked to on the phone, only to discover her missing then learning she has been arrested (3)another lawyer for a paternity suit being filed against him because the ex-girlfriend(he doesn't remember)and his 14 yr old daughter are living in a car

You might think I'm giving away the book but believe me I'm not

So even by half way into the book you still don't know what is actually going on and there is so much descriptions to wade through it gets tiresome, then there are pages and pages of fighting, stealing cars and running, more fighting and more running on and on then the descriptions of every thing under the sun including the kind of pizza they ate and how the crust was fixed and on and on, I finally just had to do a lot of skimming each page to get through all the unnecessary descriptions.

Hopefully the next Reacher book will be much better!

Reacher finally gets to Virginia to look up a woman who previously helped him and to which he had a connection with. But she's not there and, Reacher being Reacher, knows that something just isn't right. And the story takes off! Another good Reacher story, although not quite as good as some of the others, still, it IS Jack Reacher, so you can't help but like it.

A fast, easy read, even though the book is over 600 pages. The main characters are well-fleshed out, but the secondaries could use a little more color (especially the antagonists) Anyone who has ever been in the military, & hates 'the machine', will understand & enjoy this one.

After several detours across the United States, we finally meet the woman behind the voice: Major Susan Turner, whom Jack Reacher spoke to while in South Dakota (in 2010's 61 Hours, the 14th Reacher novel). Reacher has been heading her way, back to the 110th MP headquarters in Virginia, because he wants to meet her and take her to dinner.

When he finally arrives, though, his plan to meet Turner is thwarted by two thugs who are trying to keep them apart. Reacher is later arrested for a crime he doesn't remember committing 16 years ago, and is recalled to military duty. He discovers that Major Turner is in the brig as well, and the fact that he might have a 14-year-old daughter living in California is enough to kick off a cross-country trip for Reacher and Turner.

As in every Reacher novel, there is head-busting physicality and analytical problem solving as Reacher tries to expose the people behind his arrest. The plot doesn't slow down until the end. There's a link to corruption in Afghanistan in the wake of the U.S. military drawdown.

Reacher and Turner become friends with benefits, as befits most of Reacher's relationships with women. The ending is a bit of a letdown compared to other Reacher novels, and the book dragged in places due to the author's meandering descriptions of cars, geography, and some idle chatter. I don't think it's the best Reacher novel, but it certainly will do for Child's legions of fans.

Like the other PBS reviews. Not near as good as the other Lee Child Jack Reacher storylines. One thing that irks me no end is the casting for the Reacher movie. Tom Cruise as Jack Reacher. You have got to be kidding me!! Whoever that casting director was never read a description of Reacher, obviously. That aside. I love Reacher and will continue to read whatever Lee Child churns out but please, enough of the detail descriptions of what the motel rooms looked like down to the dirty floors and thin towels, etc. Way too much superfluous information not needed except to get the page count up. Disappointing Reacher installment.

I used to love Lee Child, but as with James Patterson and John Sanford, he simply phoned this one in.
The character of jack Reacher is intriguing, but the storylines get weaker and less interesting with every outing.

Save your time......

A new Reacher book never fails to excite me! However, this book is not as good as the others and a little disappointing. It has three stories happening at the same time, a lot of fighting and car chases, and there were times I wasn't sure who was chasing who. There are some great parts, like Reacher fighting with two hands behind his back and of course winning! Since it is Jack Reacher I'm talking about, I still enjoyed reading the book, but I hope his next adventure is better and more exciting!

Glad he finally got to meet Susan, the woman on the phone. But of course he runs into tons of trouble when he get there. But don't worry he straightens everything out in his typical hands on fashion and superior powers of computation. Looking forward to the next one.

Contrary to many of the reviews I'm reading here, I very much enjoyed this story. It had the anticipated and expected Reacher-action where he defends himself both with words and actions, but it also had him connecting with people (and one or two in particular) on a much more human level than he has in the past. I like that his emotions have softened slightly here (although he's still a perfect bad-@ss when he needs to be!).

Never go back -- but Jack Reacher does, and the past finally catches up with him. . . . -- Former military cop Jack Reacher makes it all the way from snowbound South Dakota to his destination in northeastern Virginia, near Washington, D.C.: the headquarters of his old unit, the 110th MP. The old stone building is the closest thing to a home he ever had. Reacher is there to meet, in person, the new commanding officer, Major Susan Turner, so far just a warm, intriguing voice on the phone.

But it isn't Turner behind the CO's desk. And Reacher is hit with two pieces of shocking news, one with serious criminal consequences, and one too personal to even think about. When threatened, you can run or fight. Reacher fights, aiming to find Turner and clear his name, barely a step ahead of the army, and the FBI, and the D.C. Metro police, and four unidentified thugs.

Reacher gets put through his paces -- and that makes him question who he is, what he's done, and the very future of his untethered life on the open road.

One of Child's best Reacher book. It fills in a lot of the blanks about Jack's past, and for those of us rooting for him to finally get to Virginia to meet Susan, it's a "feel good" moment; or at least until the trouble begins.

Very enjoyable read. Action-packed, mystery Jack Reacher book. Book number 18; Jack's "retired" but hasn't changed. Those who love the Reacher series will love this one as well.

Another good outing from Lee Child in the Reacher series. In this one, Reacher finally makes it back to his old home base -- the 110th MP -- to meet up with the current CO, Major Susan Turner, who he had talked to on the phone back in 61 Hours. However, when he gets there, Turner has been arrested on a bribery charge and Reacher gets accused of a 16-year-old homicide. To pursue this charge, Reacher is also reinstated into the Army! He also finds that a paternity charge has been brought against him and he may have a 14-year-old daughter that he has never met. Well, as usual, Reacher sets out to disprove all of the above and ends up in a cross-country trip to do it. Eventually, he gets to to bottom of the charges and along the way, breaks a few arms and fingers (Reacher at his best). I did enjoy this one, although probably not as much as some of the earlier outings. So where will Reacher go from here - since he spent the last few books trying to get to Turner to ask her out to dinner? I guess we'll see next year!
