Another great read by Andrews. I just love the characters in her books and all their quirks. This has become one of my favorite cozy mystery series.

We accidentally ordered both the hardcover and paperback of this book, and they came in about the same time. I read one, my wife read the other. That was fun.
This is just as good as the first six of this wonderful series. Well, not as good as Peacocks, and certainly better than Parrots, but plenty good.
Meg Lanslow and her family and the denizens of Caerphilly, PA, are all slightly off in delightful ways (her family) and sometimes in sinister ways (the denizens). Reading about them is always pleasant.
This story has plenty of gentle humor arising from the situations and characters. You'll love Meg and her live-in fiance, Michael. You'll be uncomfortable around the scheming historical society ladies. You'll shake your head at the antics of the Shiffleys, the tribe of locals who do all the construction work in the area.
Read the book. It's fun, it's gentle, it's warm and pleasant.
Oh, yes. Neither my wife nor I could exactly recall the motive of the killer a day after finishing the book. Doesn't matter, though; we clearly recall enjoying every minute of reading the book.

As always, Donna Andrews gives a lot of laughs and chaos in this book. I alway enjoy her books for their humor while distributing clues.

Meg and Michael are still renovating their home...i enjoyed this addition to the series more than some of the others.....(but it cannot beat Peacocks)...This time they are involved in"extreme croquet", which utilizes the legs of cows and sheep as extra wickets. Meg slides down a bank after her ball and discovers a body whose head seems to have met with a croquet mallet.....As usual a good, fun read....

Meg's family is hosting an eXtreme croquet tournament near Meg's house, and Meg has gotten roped into playing. Not that she hates it, but the sport is a little wild for her tastes.
After Meg's ball gets roqueted into a gully, Meg finds a dead body. While the woman had obviously been hit by a croquet mallet, she wasn't playing in the tournament. In fact, Meg and the other contestants have no idea who she is.
It's Michael who makes the identification. The victim used to be a professor at the local college and had made quite a few enemies in town. What was she doing back in the area? And who knew about it and wanted to kill her?
This series has become a favorite because of the great plots and the laugh out loud moments.
Fortunately, the plot is very engaging. There are several twists and plenty of red herrings before the final solution is revealed. I had no clue who the murderer was until it was revealed.
The returning characters are their usual charming selves. It's always a pleasure to spend time with Meg and her family even if murder is the result. The new characters are interesting as well. Another very funny book, in the bird series by Andrews. I always appreciate her sense of humor and her wonderful stories. Nutty family and all.
good book. This is a quick read and her crazy family makes me laugh out loud.
I probably shouldn't have read this so far out of order, this is book 7 and the first one I read was book 1. But I thoroughly enjoyed this particular volume. Meg Lanslow is now engaged to Michael, who she met in book 1. They apparently have purchased a farm and are renovating it. An eXtreme cricket match is being played on their land, a game which is played on acres instead of a single small field. Searching for a lost ball, Meg of course comes across a corpse.
For me the mystery almost takes a back seat to the droll humor in this story, but there is enough meat in it to make it an interesting read. However, the real fun I had was in the tongue-in-cheek character jokes and hilarious visuals Andrews paints with words. I had enjoyed the first book, but was not too impressed by those who had reviewed it as "hilarious" - now with this 7th volume, my funny bone has been tickled and my interest piqued, and I will definitely be looking for the rest.

When you need something light and funny to read, this series fills the bill. Another good adventure with Meg and her eccentric family with a mystery to solve. The characters are funny and well written. I really like this series and look forward to the next one.

This is one of the zaniest mystery series I have ever read. Am hot on the hunt to find every book in the series.
