While this book could be heavy at times, with some powerful emotional scenes, this was offset by the short length of the book, some amusing dialogues between Conor and The Monster, and the 5-star performance by the reader (Jason Isaacs).

I love Patrick Ness. That said, I wept through the entire last half of this book. I am still dealing with the loss of my husband and the kid in this books was smarter than me. At least he KNEW what he was thinking and why.

This is the first book I have ever had to put down because I couldn't see the pages for my tears. I lost my mother about 4 years ago and this book is more artful, truthful, and helpful than counseling and well-meaning acquaintances. I would recommend this book to young adults and older.

I can't give a praising review for this like others, I didn't find it sad or in anyway worth tears, maybe that sounds 'hard' but I don't think a YA reader will understand the concept of the story
