This book is not a standalone story. If you have not read the other books before this, I think it will be difficult for you to understand what is happening. The complexity of the story and numerous characters made it difficult for me to understand and follow at some times. There are also several storylines that were left unfollowed.
Yes, definitely agree that you have to be involved in the backstory of this series when reading this book. There were several story lines but I found it easy to follow since I wasn't rushing through the story.
I was alarmed at first when I opened this paperback and saw the print type. The print is tinier than usual and I was thinking about getting this in ebook form so I could enlarge the type but I decided to give reading the book a try. It didn't take me longer than a couple of chapters to get so engrossed in the story that I no longer noticed the tiny print.
I especially enjoyed reading about a new character with Asperger Syndrome It was so enlightening to read about someone with this character difference.
The story doesn't end with a cliffhanger but just some questions about one of the bad guys and that was good enough for me.

I've loved every single book in this series, but this was a huge disappointment. Long, boring, repetitive for 350 of the 400 pages. If this is all you've got, please end the series now. Don't be like Laurel K. Hamilton and torture fans.
