Reverend Michael Eric Dyson (born October 23, 1958) is an American academic, author, and radio host. He is a professor of sociology at Georgetown University.
Dyson was born to Everett and Addie Dyson. He attended Cranbrook School in Bloomfield Hills, Michigan on academic scholarship but left and completed his education at Cass Technical High School. He received: his Bachelor's, from Carson—Newman College (magna cum laude); and his Master's and Doctorate in religion, from Princeton University. He is an ordained Baptist minister.
Dyson has taught at DePaul University, Chicago Theological Seminary, the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, Columbia University, Brown University, and the University of Pennsylvania. Since 2007, he has been a Professor of Sociology at Georgetown University. Dyson hosted a radio show, which aired on Radio One, from January 2006 to February 2007. He is also a commentator on National Public Radio, CNN, and Real Time with Bill Maher.
Dyson presided over the July 10, 2010, wedding of La La and Carmelo Anthony, at Cipriani's, in New York; the 320 guests included Justin Timberlake, Kim Kardashian, Khloe Kardashian, Lamar Odom, Ciara, Spike Lee, Ludacris, Kelly Rowland, and LeBron James. The ceremony was filmed by VH1 and will air, in September 2010, as part of a reality series on the couple.
