Michael A. Ventrella founded Animato!, one of the first magazines dedicated to animated films, in the mid 80s. He sold it in the early 90s and it prospered for a few more years after that, becoming the premiere source for animation history until the internet took over. Under the pseudonym "Thelma Scumm" he wrote the gossip column and later continued that for FPS magazine. He has been quoted in Entertainment Weekly magazine and the Philadelphia Inquirer as an animation expert.

Ventrella is one of the founders of the New England Roleplaying Organization, one of the first and biggest Live action role-playing game in the United States. In 1997, he broke away and began running The NERO Alliance, now known as simply The Alliance. His Rule Books and Players' Guides are constant sellers.

His first fantasy novel ARCH ENEMIES [1] was published in 2008. The sequel THE AXES OF EVIL [2] was released in 2010.

Ventrella is a criminal defense attorney [3] who has argued before the Pennsylvania Supreme Court.
