First of all, WTF does Mwwwwhahahah mean? The author used it 3 times on one page. Secondly, the cover photo didn't look anything like the hero. Smoke has waist-length black hair not short hair. Someone obviously didn't read the first chapter of this book.
This is unlike any shifter novel I've read. Smoke (hero) has three distinct personalities - amnesia boy (David), Smoke (demi-god, warrior), and Cat (shifter). He's more like a schizophrenic than a shifter which was very disconcerting for Eva, our heroine and the reader. Smoke is supposed to be a warrior who protects earthlings but he acts like this is his first trip. I didn't find his attitude/behavior sexy at all, just caveman-like.
While there were tons of hot sex scenes, they were all identical. He ate her, she sucked him, they f**ked. Repeat as necessary. Definitely lacked creativity. I can see this scenario once or twice but again and again. Come on.
I totally forgot that this series had a Merlin/Avalon connection so here was the fourth book this month revolving around this storyline. This incantation had Merlin as a werewolf and Guinevere a vampire. Merlin controlled the actions of the werewolves and Guinevere had control of the vamps. Interesting concept.

The story of Smoke and Eva. I've liked all the Mageverse books, but I think this was my favorite. They meet under very unusual circumstances, care for each other immediately, and fight for each other pretty much through the whole book. The author left several set ups for future books, and now I can't wait for the next one which I think is Master of Shadows. Lots of action, suspence, and for those of you who love it, lots of very hot sex scenes.

I loved this book!!! Angela Knight sure knows how to write a great story with a good balance between story and heat. Smoke is a Demigod who is very powerfully and has lived thousands of years. He normally remains in the form of a black housecat with silver stripes. At the end of the last book, Smoke was being attacked by the Werewolf Sorcerer Warlock. Warlock trapped Smoke in a bubble that was draining Smoke of his magic. Inorder to escape, Smoke tried to overpower the spell against him by blasting it will ALL of his power. The strategy worked but it caused Smoke to lose his memory of who and what he is. It also caused his psyche to splinter.
Eva is a new werewolf who attempts to help rescue Smoke from Warlock. She became a werewolf 5 years ago following a vicious attach. She still does not fully understand everything that being a werewolf involves but she will do whatever it takes to protect the man she's rescued. With Warlock determined to completely destroy Smoke, the two will have to work hard to stay alive.
Because Smoke has lost his memory, Eva decides to call Smoke "David". David is the Sidhe personality of Smoke. It is this personality that Eva falls in love with. But when more of Smoke's memories and powers come back, Eva will have to decide if she can love all sides of Smoke: the Sidhe Warrior, the Cat, and the powerful elemental.
I loved the idea of the three sides to Smoke. This gave the reader the chance to get to know Smoke a piece at a time. By breaking his character down this way, Eva was given a chance to know the Man without being intimidated by all his powers.

Not her best, but enjoyable.
I have always been a fan of Angela Knight's Mageverse series. I rated this 4 Stars however, as it really did pick up after the 1st 100 pages. I guess I just expected something more profound with Smoke's book. Not really crazy over the 3 splits of who Smoke really is, but all in all I did give it the 4 star rating. I am actively awaiting her next installment fo Master of Shadows.
I enjoyed the Mageverse universe Knight created but the stories were getting old. So this one was a nice change. I love how sweet Smoke and Eva were with each other. The story wasn't centered on how they didn't want to fall in love but how they were going to stay safe. Lots of steamy love scenes though since they don't have to fight each other. I really like Eva who was smart, gutsy and tough even though she had to learn to fight. I usually hate lost memory plots but this one wasn't annoying because Smoke started regaining his memory rather quickly. I think it helped that he was quite accepting and not whining about it every second.
There was a nice set up for Bella and Tristan story. I would love it if Knight expanded on Miranda, a runaway dire wolf who can work magic and daughter of the baddie.
It's been a while since I've read Knight so I didn't remember things in the Dire kind being so sexist.
Overall, a fun quick read.
