Chilling novel - I was on edge a few times whilst reading this book. Anna Franklin takes a holiday to the continent - when she doesn't return home as planned, her loved ones are distraught with worry over what's happened to her. Anna's story is told in two parallel narratives - it's up to the reader to determine which is the real story.
Confusing to me at first, but when I let go and just read I found myself wondering what would happen to Anna in both stories. While the ending did satisfy me to a degree, I'll admit I was wanting a bit more. I loved Dunant's "Birth of Venus" and this was a refreshing change. I'm anxious to check out more of her suspense work.

Anna Franklin goes on an impromptu trip to Italy but doesn't return when promised. Soon, the people she has left behind begin to wonder what has happened to her. The story is told in parallel story lines and will keep the reader guessing. Did she run off with a scam artist lover? Was she kidnapped by a man with an obsession with another woman? It was really interesting and far more suspenseful than I anticipated. I found myself nervous and on edge until the very end.

I am not reading anyone else's review until I have posted mine. I don't think what I am about to tell you is considered a spoiler. But just in case....warning. I wish someone would have told me what I am about to tell. If I get complaints form this I will delete it and apologize.
I was soooooo confused. I would have enjoyed this story had I known that each situation (and there were two) were separate entities. The scenarios were not intertwined. How was I to figure this out? The only way I found out was because I went to amazon to read reviews because I was so confused and disappointed and needed to know what the heck was going on. Had I known what I know now, I would have enjoyed this book more. But then I think...was that supposed to happen? But thanks to Amazon, I know I was not alone.
I will say, I loved her writing style. Just wish I would have known how to read this book. Now I have to sit here and chew over everything I can remember.

Awful, annoying, two different possible plots, supposedly a thriller, but unsatisfying. If you like ambiguity, you'll love this.
