This is my all time favorite series. The only books that I am keeping to re-read over and over. I have never gotten so into a series before, the lives of all the characters are just so interesting and complex, you can't wait to get the next one to find out what is going to happen. I am REALLY anticipating reading the next one...LOVER UNBOUND, as Vishous is my favorite character.

I have to say that this book was a big surprise, in a good way that is. I actually did not like Bush particularly before this book and was almost stalling to read it.
However, ten min into the book I was hooked and the reader gets to know bush for what he really is which is freaking amazing.
Go read it, you will not be disappointed.

What a great, great book. While you can read this independently I would highly recommend starting at the beginning so you really get the feel of how all the relationships work and have evolved together as family. Even the side stories are well written. It's an exciting, emotional and passionate book. Well written just like the others.

Butch's story. Romantic, suspenseful, tormented and the characters are all full of depth. Ward keeps a good balance of the violence with the rest of the action. Love this series!

So far there is not 1 book in this series that I would not recommend. JR Ward has done a fantastic job with thise series. I can not wait to read more of this series.

Summary this book is about the human cop Butch (Brian) and the vampire Marissa, his one true love. Whether their love can conquer their differences of Human and Vampire. Butch and hard core human. One that has never truly loved finally find love in Marissa. Marissa a sheltered aristocratic Vampire never has experienced love either and is a virgin in ever essence of the word.

Marissa kicked out of her brothers home for loving Butch, the human, must learn to take care of herslef rather than relying on the males in her world to take care of her. Through out the book we see Marissa develope into an independent strong female lead. We see Butch develope emotionally and in the end physcially as well. Their love knows no bounds as Marissa starts to explore the sexually with Butch and he starts to explore what it means to truly care for someone.

Loved this brook, Love this series. Ladies don't miss out on this one!!!

Another wonderful addition to the Black Dagger Brotherhood series. I loved this book although it does seem to be at odds with something said earlier about humans and vampires. I understand Ward did what she had to for the sake of moving Butch's storyline along, but it clashes with the vampire mythology she set up in the first book.

What I love about this series is Ward manages to create interesting storylines for each major character. This is Butch's story. I hadn't paid much attention to his character in the previous books other than to enjoy the smart-ass comments he makes, but this book really took him to a whole new level. He's definitely a male of worth. The friendship and bond between Butch and V is a beautiful thing. They have some very funny interactions in the book. There are also some very poignant scenes that show V's troubled relationship with himself. The balcony scene nearly gave me a heart attack. Whew!

One pet peeve, I was so annoyed by how little the female character knew about intimate matters. She was beyond clueless. It got annoying after a while. I think the average American sixth grader knows more. I understand she's innocent, but she's also three hundred years old and knows how to use a computer and drive a car, but she doesn't know anything at all about her own anatomy or a man's.

The scene in the Tomb with all the Brothers is amazing. I could see that so clearly in my head. It's so vividly described. Gave me chills. It's one of my favorite scenes from the series.

I'm a big fan of this series and this book is a great example of why it is so popular. Butch is a human who was introduced in the first book of the series. We've come to know and love him and have been waiting anxiously to know how he will ever find love with Marissa.

As with many series where there is such a long build up to a romance, there is a bit of a let-down when the story is finally told. I do think that is the case with Butch and Marissa.

That said, the book is action packed and steamy as we expect from BDB books. The relationship between Butch and Vishous is very unique and tormented and, frankly, pretty hot. To me, that was more interesting than Butch and Marissa. In a way, I was sad this part of B&V was not explored more deeply. Until this series I never thought I would be interested in m/m romance (which is almost non-existent in this story, please don't get me wrong) - but what I learned is that love is love and if there is a strong relationship and good chemistry, it doesn't matter what gender people are - love is hot.

Incidentally, I found this great fan fiction story about Butch and Vishous that tells the story of an erotic encounter between them which Vishous erases from Butch's memory so he can't feel guilty - but now we know what "could have been". I think you can just google their names and fan fiction and you'll get it. It's even reasonably well-written.

I've read the series twice and this book didn't stick with me like some of the others. Wrath and Beth (book 1) and Zsadist and Bella (book 3) stand out in the first four. Butch and Vishous stand out, but there is no book about them as a couple.

3.5 stars

I am in love with the Black Dagger Brotherhood Series. Once you pick up each book it's impossible to set them down. I find myself needing to get the next book immediately, learning what is happening in the lives of the Brothers, intrigued how each chapter unfolds.

Truly these books are worth taking a look at:
Dark Lover, Lover Eternal, Lover Awakened, Lover Revealed, Lover Unbound, Lover Enshired.

Happy Reading

Butch O'Neal has been accepted as a friend and confidant to the Black Dagger Brotherhood, but is still on the outer fringes since he is a human and cannot fight with them. He is not fully accepted by the vampires and definitely not accepted by his human family. Butch is also in love with beautiful vampire Marissa. But Marissa is part of the vampire aristocracy and Butch knows a mere human would never been good enough for her. When Butch is captured by the Lessening Society, he is nearly killed. Rescued by Vishous, Butch knows an evil has been planted inside of him...an evil that may bring down the brotherhood.

This is another excellent story in Ward's Black Dagger Brotherhood series. Both Butch and Marissa are very lonely people, neither are satisfied with their current roles in life. Butch feels like an outsider in the vampire society, while Marissa is treated like a porcelain doll who must always bend to the rules of society. I loved their story and think they are a terrific couple. My rating: 5 Stars.

Butch is one of my favorite characters. So I was excited to read this book. Though I didn't really start to like Marissa til the end. She's just so whiny! The middle of the book seemed repetitive(will they or won't they be together)and so the story drug on. I did love the ending though. Particularly the epilogue. It explained a lot of lingering questions.

After the emotional train wreck of the previous book I was nervous to start Lover Revealed. I wasn't sure I could take any more craziness. But then I thought to myself what more could possible happen? Apparently a whole lot more. There is the big reveal about Butch's relationship to a certain warrior king, the creation of a super weapon the warriors now have in their arsenal to use against the lessers. Finally there is John and that covers a whole bunch of ground on it own.

The relationship between Butch and V was breathtaking in this book. The lengths the two will go to for each other is honorable. The way they open up to each other is endearing and while I may never have liked Butch or V alone, together they are amazing.
I wasn't a big fan of Marissa at the start of the book, I found her to be a little self-centered and weak, by the end of the book I wasn't won over but I excepted that she works for Butch.
Then there is John, and during this book I really felt my motherly instincts taking over. Watching his journey will be reason enough to come back for the next round.

Fourth in the Black Dagger Brotherhood. Butch O'Neal, an ex-homicide cop, is the only human to be allowed in the inner circle of the Brotherhood. And he wants to go even deeper and battle the "lessers". If he can't have Marissa, the female vampire he loves, then he can at least fight side by side with the Brothers. Cursed with the very thing he wants, he sacrifices himself to save a civilian vampire and is left for dead. Found by a miracle, can even the love of Marissa be enough to bring him back? What can I say? You care about these characters, feel their pain, hope and triumphs. See other three books posted.

This is the fourth installment of J.R Ward's Black Dagger Brotherhood series, and it is a fairly fulfilling read.

Once human cop Butch O'neal struggles to find his place in the vampire world, and to win the heart of aristocrat Marissa. There romance is complicated by Butch's haunted past as well as a more recently acquired curse, courtesy of the Omega.

Butch is a seriously cool, every-guy kind of character. He's funny, friendly, and loyal. He is also strong and spiritual. Watching him find his place in the world is engaging.

Marissa goes from being weak and pitiable, to strong and compassionate. She becomes far more likable than she was in the earlier books, and she is easy to relate to.

The romance is beautiful. The action is entertaining and serves the plot well. Theres never a boring moment.

This set on mount TBR for awhile. I was worried. I didn't care that much for Marissa. She finally gets a backbone and it's good. The BDB is an awesome series; however, I tolerate in small doses only. Why? Alpha (and I mean ALPHA) males can only be tolerated so much before I want to bitch slap them. Hard. While I appreciate the original spelling, really?! Then there's all that Brand Name dropping. They're rich. I get that. I don't like reading about it every other sentence.
I enjoyed learning more about John and his evolution.

So far, this is my favorite of the series. Plot development is fast paced and the romance of Butch and Marissa is such a trainwreck, I couldn't wait to see what happened next. Butch, the jaded, scotch soaked, washed up cop that has become the mascot for the Brotherhood is the focus of this book. His bromance with V, the genius warrior, is delightfully unexpected and intense. I love that Buch becomes a total fashion label whore! And the story of John continues, he is going to break our hearts, I just know it!
For vampire romance/suspense you can't get better than this!

I haven't been reading these in order but I would recommend it to get the full effect. There are ceremonies and story plots that would make more sense if you have read the other ones.

That being said, I absolutely loved this book. I adored Butch in book one for some reason (haven't read 2-3 yet) so I was quite excited to read this book. It flowed beautifully and the chemistry/steamy scenes between Butch and Marissa just worked. I thought I would be annoyed with how virginal and innocent she was but I actually didn't mind it. I think it added to the concept of the double standards and sheltered lives the upper class led. I loved the idea of Marissa finding herself because before I wasn't sure I liked her. Grateful that Ward didn't shy away from exploring same sex intimate relationships.

Since I have read John's story already, Going back and and seeing him grow up with the boys was fun. It also gave a great view of what the brothers went through to be where they are at. Loved seeing the other mated females working for a common good.

The thing I didn't like were the scenes with the bad guys. I ended up skim reading a lot of those because they weren't as interesting and were slightly long. Or I was just anxious to get back to the brotherhood.

So I would definitely recommend this one. The humor was much better in this book as well and I actually laughed out loud during some of the scenes.

I was pleasantly surprised by the 4th book in this series. I took a break from this series because I was not a huge fan of the Butch character or Marissa for that matter and seriously thinking about skipping it. But my OCD kicked and knew I was not going to skip it! I think this is my favorite so far!! Butch becomes more relatable and Marissa grows a pair! V is more a mystery to me than EVER before, which makes him all the more desired.

reviewed Lover Revealed (Black Dagger Brotherhood, Bk 4) on
Very entertaining book if you're into this genre. The story is well-told and generally well-written. The best part of the book (and the series) is/are the characters.

My biggest criticism of the writing, in general (of this series) is the dialogue. Dialogue is serviceable for the most part but too often it feels forced. The writer attempts to be unique to the brotherhood group, and has them use a few expressions that just don't feel natural and tend to "grate" on one's nerves.

Another issue is that if you're reading the series, after awhile each book gets a little repetitious. Love stories follow a pretty similar (and simple) pattern and become predictable--very few surprises and no great revelations.

Still, I admit it's a pretty enjoyable read and good characters.

Butch and Marissa's story was really good, but of the 4 that I've read it's not my favorite. I love Butch, finding out about his past and seeing how his relationship with all the Brothers really grows in this book. I totally felt for Vishous, his confusion over his feelings for Butch and also what is going on with his powers. John Matthews is turning into one of my favorites, seeing his struggle with Tohr's disapperance and Wellsie's death, trying to prove that he is worthy of being a Brother and finding his place in their world makes for a great character. But what made it my least fav of the 4 was Marissa. I got where she was coming from and what her hang ups were, but it just got to be a bit much for me. All I can say is Thank God for the brothers and their Shellans...the great thing about J.R. Ward's books is that you still get to have an interaction with the other characters that you've met along the way and they aren't only background, they are totally involved in the story and they just keep getting more interesting.
This series should be read in order, there is so much that happens, and although she will give you some back story, it's much easier to do in order.

This is the fourth book in the Black Dagger Brotherhood. It was a decent book, but not my favorite in the series so far. I did enjoy that the plot was more filled out and seems to be leading up to something bigger. I listened to this on audio book and although the guy reading is sounds a little too dramatic for my tastes; he does a decent job overall.

This book tells the story of Butch and Marissa. When Butch is captured by the Lessers and horribly wounded he ends up in Haver's clinic where only Marissa can help him fight to stay alive. Things are complicated by Butch being a human and by some strange powers Butch has gained from his stay with the Lessers. The story of John Mathews continues throughout this book as well. We also learn more about Rehvenge and a lot more about Vishous and his past.

It was great to finally get the story between Butch and Marissa; this is a story that started developing in the second book and kind of stalled in the third book. This book had more plot development than previous books and I really enjoyed that. Based on this book it looks like Ward is finally developing a set-up for an epic battle between the Lessers and the Brotherhood. It was nice to have a plot that is actually a big part of the story rather than just a vehicle for the romance.

I also really enjoyed watching both Marissa and Butch grow as characters. They change a lot throughout the book and it was fun to witness this growth; especially in Marissa's case. The back story for Vishous was wonderful too and his powers were intriguing to learn about. Butch developing these strange powers and the way they tie in with the Lesser prophecy made this a more interesting read than the previous books.

There was one major thing about this book that drove me crazy and that was Butch and Marissa being on again and off again so many times. They went through the "I love you" "I hate you" cycle a couple too many times. It got to the point where it wasn't generating tension between the characters; it was just eye-rolling and obnoxious. It seemed like for some reason Ward drew the story out way longer than it needed to be.

Overall a solid addition to the series. I really enjoyed having a fuller plot and including this Lesser prophecy in things makes this more of an urban fantasy type of book as opposed to a pure romance; I thought this was wonderful. The constant on again, off again between Marissa and Butch got old and was too repetitive; but it was good to finally read the story between them. Vishous's story was also a very interesting part of this book. I can't wait to see if the war between the Lessers and the Brotherhood escalates in the next book, Lover Unbound.

Butch was not a character I took to right away in the other Black Dagger Brotherhood novels. So when it came time to read his book in the series I will admit I was thinking just to plow through the book and try not to think too much about it. I regret that choice and I regret thinking less of Butch ONeil. Once again J.R Ward has brought her delicious writing style with her blend of sensual seduction and fast moving action into Lover Revealed. J.R Ward lets us delve more into the back story of Butch why he has been a bit of a drunkard in the past but we than also find out what he has been thinking now.

If you have read the other books you know that he has been living with the Brotherhood. By Lover Revealed he has started to want to get out from under the living situation. It is not because he feels any less loyal to the Brothers, but he wants to feel like his own man. Anyone can understand that right? There is of course the tension still remaining between him and Wraths Ex Mate Marissa.

While I enjoyed the book there are still a few parts that get to me I am still not a fan at all of the slayers. The pieces with the slayers are not written badly they are just as good as any other bits it is simply the slayers are annoying and you wish their baby powder smelling selves should just go away. That said there is one interesting bit that crops up and blends well with the entire story having to do with the slayers. So if you enjoy the Black Dagger Brotherhood series you will enjoy Lover Revealed.

The fourth installment of the Black Dagger Brotherhood focuses on Brian Butch ONeal the human hanging out with the Brotherhood.

We learn about his background growing up on the southside of Boston (making him a Southie) and how he was always the black sheep of his family. His father ignored and beat him until his sister, Janie, was kidnapped and killed. Butch was the last to see her when she was taken and was always blamed for her kidnapping and death despite the fact that at the time he was only 12 years old.

Now, Butch is living at the Brotherhood compound and using his police background to help them with their battle against the lessers and still pining after Marissa. He likes that he has a lot of the finer things in life now: nice clothes, luxury cars, all the gadgets a man could want, but he feels that he is just a hanger-on since he doesnt feel he fully commits to the work of the Brotherhood.

One night, he has an opportunity to save a civilian vampire and in the process is kidnapped by the Lessening Society. While held hostage, the Omega (the spiritual leader if you can call evil spiritual of the Lessening Society), places a part of himself inside Butch as an attempt to infiltrate the Brotherhood and then leaves him out in the cold for the Brotherhood to find.

Vishous finds him and with the help of the Scribe Virgin saves him and takes him to the hospital to recover. The Omegas attempt to turn Butch against the Brotherhood eventually turns on the Lessening Society.

Meanwhile, Marissa is trying to strike out on her own and wants to start a home for battered women and children. While visiting with a young child who has been abused by her father, she finds that Butch is in quarantine at the hospital and rushes to his room. She is forced into quarantine with him to Butchs chagrin. But not because he doesnt want to see her, but because hes afraid he will hurt her.

Havers, as a member of the glymera (the vampire high society) council, has decided that to stop his sister, Marissa, from being with Butch to institute sehclusion for all unmarried females. If he can get the council and the king to approve, he will be able to send Marissa away for safe keeping where the only ones who may have contact with her are those he, as her whard (ie, guardian), allows.

Butchs desire for Marissa is growing and hes starting to notice changes in himself. Like hes doing the bonding thing with Marissa that vampires do with their mates. Vishous does some research and based on blood-testing done by Havers, it is determined that somehow, Butch is actually related to Wrath, and V believes that they can turn Butch from human to a vampire. Its very dangerous and has never been done before.

And John Matthews training and education continues as he tries to adjust to the death of Wellsie and the disappearance of Tohr. He also continues to be harassed and bullied by Lash, but his friendship with Blaylock and Qhuinn grows stronger.

The stories with the lessers are still a low point of the book, but the Mr Initial thing is once again something Im adjusting to or not as frequent. Plus, there are lesser characters whose names are being used instead of the Mr Initial format. I think the thing about the lessers that Im somewhat bored with is they keep bouncing back and forth with whos the boss.

The good news is that the stuff that I viewed as homophobic references with Butch and V gets resolved in this book.

Yes, Im still hooked on this series and this is a favorite book. And the love, redemption and sacrifice pieces are still there. (In fact, this book has pretty much convinced me to keep this series for re-reading.)

And, theres still lots of sex.

I gave this one two stars because I've read it.. and I can't remember a single detail about it. I must not have been impressed since I haven't retained even the foggiest of memories of the plot.

I love this series. I can't get enough of "The Black Dagger Brotherhood". Each story is so unique and yet intricately intertwined with those that preceded and follow. Each books gives wonderful insight into each individual character and leads to another book, making you itch for the next book. I find myself unable to put this series down once I start a new book.

This book was about Butch (their human friend) and Marissa (a Vampire woman of nobility). In many ways their kind is still stuck in old time views of women. This book talks about many of those issues and the Vampire King, Wrath, tries to find a way to help with Marissa's assistance. Another part of this book that I love is about John. He is a vampire child that has been in every book. I love how complex his story is and I can't wait to see how he turns out.

I'd ardently recommend this book to anyone into books about Vampires. This book is unique and each books is different enough to keep you hooked.

I loved this book!!!! I've liked Butch since he and Wrath went at it in the first book, he has heart and this was the proof of it!!! one thing JR Ward does for me is make me believe women are very loved... BUT, the romance is just part of the story... I will be so sorry when there are no more to read!!!!!

"Lover Revealed" is Butch's story and continues the story of the Black Dagger Brotherhood. I gave this book a 4.5/ A- because it was a little bit more predictable and I flat out did not like Marissa's attitude towards Butch throughout most of the book. I understood where she was coming from but that doesn't mean I liked it. There's a lot going on in this book and we find out quite a bit and there is a huge turning point in the war of lessers vs. the Brothers.

Out of the four, this wasn't my favorite, but that doesn't mean it's not a good book. This book is still a good read.

I love this series, particularly the close interaction as suggested by the term "brotherhood" in its best sense of the word. Think of the military and the close bond that soldiers and Marines have for one another. I found the sense of humor in the character names very amusing. And I have loved the plots on every book in the series.

"In the shadows of the night in Caldwell, NY there is a war raging between vampires and their slayers." A secret band of brothers have "adopted" a human into their ranks. This human, Butch, falls in love with a female vampire that is an outcast by her peers. Butch and Marissa explore their love as the war rages.

Great story. Four and a half stars.

Love it...and the Black Dagger Brotherhood.

Buth O'Neal is a fighter by nature. A hard-living ex-homocide cop, he's the only human ever to be allowed in the inner circle of the Black Dagger Brotherhood. And he wants to go even deeper into the vampire world -- to engage in the turf war with the lessers. He's got nothing to lose. His heart belongs to a female vampire, an aristocratic beauty who's way out of his league. If he can't have Marissa, then at least he can fight side by side with the Brothers...

Fate curses him with the very thing he wants. When Butch sacrifices himself to save a civilian vampire from the slayers, he falls prey to the darkets force in the war. Left for dead, he's found by a miracle, and the Brotherhood calls on Marissa to bring him back. But even her love may not be enough to save him...
