Michael Connelly is an excellent writer and Harry Bosch is a wonderful character. This book takes him on his premiere post-police days adventure and sets the tone for books to come. Very good read.

You've gotta love Harry Bosch...even with all of his flaws. While Harry is retired from the LAPD, that doesn't stop him from investigating a crime that took place 4 years ago and a scene that has haunted his dreams. He incurs the wrath of the LAPD and the FBI when he starts snooping into the cold case files, but that makes him more determined to find the killer of Angela Benton and the thieves that took the 2 million dollars from the movie set where she worked.

The vision has haunted him for four years--a young woman lying crumpled in death, her hand outstretched in silent supplication. Harry Bosch was taken off the Angella Benton murder case when the production assistant's death was linked with the violent theft of two million dollars from a movie set. Both files were never closed. Now retired from the L.A.P.D., Bosch is determined to find justice for Angella. Without a badge to open doors and strike fear into the guilty, he's on his own. And even in the face of an opponent more powerful and ruthless that any he's ever encountered, Bosch is not backing down.

Harry Bosch has retired from the LAPD but he can't get a four-year-old cold case out of his mind. The haunting memory of Angella Benton's murder drives him to take on one of the nastiest villains Connelly has created to date. And the final chapter (even if you've seen it coming) should be read with that box of tissues handy.

I enjoy all Harry Bosch books and anxiously await each new book. Some I read and listen to on audio books. When Harry Bosch finally has to retire, I will miss his character very much. The Mickey Haller character is a close second, but Harry Bosch being a Vietnam veteran adds so much to his story line.

Harry Bosch has turned his back on his job as an LAPD detective. Although Bosch has a private eye license, he hasn't decided to take up that job. Instead, he is haunted by a case that took place 4 years before. But the powers-that-be are all aligned against him as he searches for answers. The FBI, LAPD, and others are set against Bosch.

There's $2 million dollars cash that is still missing from a movie set, a missing (and presumed dead) FBI agent, a dead and gravely-injured former LAPD detectives who were caught in the line-of-fire while trying to solve a young woman's murder, and so on. This story is very complex and has many parts that must be wound back to their source.

Most of Harry Bosch's stories are solved cerebrally but in this one there is action. The reason I could belive that Harry held his own is because of his Vietnam skills honed years before. Actually, this story is superb. There are so many parts to this story that the reader must stay tuned at all times to follow the diverse (and sporadic) clues to the solution.

Besides all of this on his professional plate, Harry is troubling over his former wife. Eleanor has become very successful as a Las Vegas gambler. Harry realizes that he is still emotionally involved with Eleanor Wish and he wonders how he can approach her with his feelings. One hint: LOST LIGHT and THE 9 DRAGONS are the two Harry Bosch stories that cause the personal life of our hero to change the most.

I don't usually comment on the readers of audiobooks but Len Cariou has captured Harry Bosch's persona. Some readers tell you what is happening but Cariou brings the listener along for the wild ride.

Although I like Connelly very much as an author, I've never taken to his Harry Bosch books. Unlike others I've tried to read, this Bosh novel is excellent. The revelations don't stop coming, and Mr. Tough Guy wins it all in the end. A good read!

Although I am new to Michael Connelly, "Lost Light" kept my attention as much as "Chasing the Dime". He seems to integrate mystery and technology in both novels. The genre of murder mysteries draws a certain crowd, yet Connelly is able to get tech-heads involved in his stories. Very well drawn-out plot with an ending that won't let anyone down. James Patterson, look out; Connelly's on his way.

After introducing the circumstances of the story and some of the players, this book starts to move, increases speed and finally moves at breakneck pace until the end. I dont usually comment on the readers of audiobooks but Len Cariou has captured Harry Boschs persona. Some readers tell you what is happening but Cariou brings the listener along for the wild ride.

Harry has retired from LAPD and is working some of his old cases. One of his cold cases has always bothered him; Harry starts looking into the death of Angella Benton, an employee of Eidon Productions, who was found dead in the foyer of her apartment building.

A few days later, Bosch was on the set of a film where $2 million was used as a prop. During a risky daytime robbery of the set, Harry wounded one of the robbers; but none of them were ever caught. Because of the media glare, the murder and robbery were paired and taken from Harry. They were turned over to 2 Robbery Homicide detectives.

Days later, the 2 Robbery Homicide detectives were eating lunch; a shooter came into the diner and shot one detective dead and permanently paralyzed the other. It seems that cops are suspicious of coincidences; they dropped the Benton death and heist cases and moved on to other incidents.

Bosch is aggravated that he has no real authority without his badge. However, he sees that he still has a mission to see justice done. He will pursue the killers/thieves with or without the badge. Bosch soon finds himself afoul of a federal terrorism task force and some of the coworkers in his previous life as a cop.

When Bosch finds out that an FBI agent disappeared while following the trail of the missing money, he knows he is onto something.

Another good one. Harry is out of the LAPD. The one flaw in it is the the Writer has too many sidebars in it. They may keep that 'human" feel in it but slow up the story.

At the end of CITY OF BONES Bosch quit the LAPD, but he's back in a new role, one that will give him more freedom to pursue the cases that compel him. When he left the LAPD Bosch took a file with him the case of a film production assistant murdered four years earlier during a USD 2 million robbery on a movie set. The LAPD now operating under post 9/11 rules think the stolen money was used to finance a terrorist training camp. Thoughts of the original murder victim are lost in the federal zeal, and when it seems the killer will be set free to aid the feds' terrorist hunt, Bosch quickly runs afoul of both his old colleagues and the FBI.

At loose ends after resigning from the LAPD, Harry Bosch decides to revisit one of his cases that was never solved. Angella Benton's murder has haunted Harry for years. He was taken off the case when the murder was linked to a two million dollar theft from a movie set. Neither case was solved. Now Harry is digging into the case, trying to see what was missed. But the LAPD and the FBI are warning him off, telling him he doesn't want to be involved. This, of course, makes harry just want to dig deeper.

This is a turning point in the series. Harry is on his own and doesn't have the power of the police department behind him any longer. I thought the mystery was excellent. I liked how Harry put everything together, even with the FBI breathing down his neck. The twist in Harry's personal life in the last few pages was startling. I can't wait to see where the author is taking our hero in the next book. My rating: 4.5 Stars.
