I have read nearly all of Lisa Gardner's novels and she never disappoints. Her writing is extremely suspenseful and she has the ability to keep you guessing up until the very end of her stories. I think this was a great book and it is certainly worth reading.

I like books where I can be entertained while learning something new. So, "Live to Tell" was just the ticket for this week's read. Gardner tells a good suspense tale while informing her readers about acute care pediatric psych wards and progressive approaches to the care of their young charges. The tension builds as you become familiar with the primary characters and grow to like them. About a 1/4 of the way in, I hated to put the book down for the night.
Warning: if you have small children, you may find this book disturbing as there is violence toward children.
The ending is a bit of a stretch, but the ride is worth the read. I like Gardner's style and will read more of her books.

WOW! Just a great story and characterization. I'm familiar with psychotic children and the incredible strain on their families and Ms. Gardner got so much of it right! A total page turner although the ending didn't feel as tight as the rest of the book. I'm on the haunt for my next Ms. Gardner novel.
I really enjoyed this book. It kept me turning the pages late into the night. Highly recommend.
Great book.
Loved this one.... could not put it down
Awesome page turner.
Detective D.D. Warren is called to the scene of a mass-murder. At first glance, it looks like a father has killed his three children and wife before taking his own life. As D.D. and her crew look into possible motives, they discover another family massacred. Is it just a coincidence? Or are these murders somehow tied together?
This story is told by three women. D.D. Warren is the cop investigating two murder-suicide cases. Victoria is a mother of a troubled child she is afraid will someday kill her. Danielle is a nurse in the pediatric psych ward. She is also the lone survivor or a murder-suicide when she was a child.
This is a very dark story in the D.D. Warren series. Some of the scenes concerning the mentally disturbed children were a bit hard to read. I liked that each chapter was told by a different character. Both Victoria and Danielle were sympathetic characters. I felt like I didn't learn anything new about D.D. even though this is the fourth books she has appeared in. My rating: 4 Stars.

I really ejoyed this book.Had a hard time putting it down.
I thought this was an excellent thriller, filled with read as fast as you can parts and sleepless nights! Great story, good action and a good ending.
I think this is one of Lisa Gardner's best...and she has cranked out some really good books...
In this one, Danielle's family has been murdered. She's the lone survivor. But it appears her details of that night are fuzzy and vague. She's tried to get help to deal with the pain. But it's not working. Then, several years plus a few days before the anniversary of her family tragedy, two families get totally wiped out, too. It turns out that the common thread between these two is that each family contained a "problem" child that was undergoing psychiatric care at the same facility where Danielle is a caretaker.
This was an excellent and quick read. It's a little over 400 pages in paperback, but so hard to put it down that I read it within the week. Be sure to add it to your "Must Read" list!!

4th in the D. D. Warren series, something of a letdown, could've been a much shorter, tighter, and more tense story. I read this series out-of-order, as the books became available, and this is my last until more are published. Reading it, I noticed something else about the writing: Gardner didn't make the major characters very distinct. Although each chapter was titled with the name of a character, and unfolded mostly in first-person perspective, they all seemed quite similar. I had to keep asking myself "Now which one is Victoria? Which one is Danielle? Who's Karen?" The book I liked best in the series was an audio version of CATCH ME, and the narrator(s) did a great job of giving the characters distinct voices. I don't recall ever saying this before, but an abridged audio version of LIVE TO TELL might be an improvement!
I read this in July of 2012 and posted my review back then. This was a reread that took me two days in November of 2014 - still an A+! Contemporary Mystery in my opinion!
Excellent read
THis is a great book, it was so hard to put down. I can not wait to read more from this author.
Great book. Lisa Gardner always does a great job.
