The Last Time I Was Me
Author: Cathy Lamb
I wrapped up my grandmother's tea cup collection and my mother's china, then grabbed a violin I'd hidden way back in my closet that made me cry, a gold necklace with a dolphin that my father gave me two weeks before he died of a heart attack when I was twelve and, at midnight, with that moon as bright as the blazes, I left Chicago. What an awesome book! Its wonderful when a writer can bring out so many emotions in a book - one paragraph I would have tears in my eyes and the next paragraph would have me laughing out loud! I would highly recommend this book to anyone. A wonderful book about growing, learning, heaving yourself over the bumps in the road and coming out on the other side a person anyone would be proud of.

And, without giving anything away, there is a courtroom scene that will have you rolling on the floor with laughter!!!

This is one of the most entertaining and enjoyable reads I've come across in a long while. The protagonist, Jeanne, is a woman you'd want to move in, become your Best Friend, enjoy a good mutual nervous breakdown, then be there to back you up when you find yourself in a tight spot. She, as well as the rest of Lamb's characters, are boldly drawn in bright, colorful splashes of high and true color. Yet they are amazingly warm and down to earth. That balance is not an easy task for a writer to accomplish. And because the characters are true-to-life, you'll find that they'll make you laugh, cringe, wince, and smile between squeezing out a tear or two.

Not as good as Julia's Chocolates or Such a Pretty Face but has a similar type of story line. It was hard to like the heroine for the first 100 pages or so but the story improved after that. There were too many extraneous characters to keep track of so it was difficult to stay connected to the main character. A little too over the top in some places but still an enjoyable read.

I loved this book so much I bought everything else Cathy Lamb has written. This was somewhat difficult to get into...but well worth it. Each of her books touches on serious issues...and the impact of the past on women and their families. A great read.

A good read, the first I've read from this author. I like her writing style and the characters, while a bit over the top at times, were endearing and interesting.

I'm afraid I'll have to agree with Kelly S.'s review; I was quite disappointed in this book. Though there were definitely some funny lines and sentiment and romance, for the most part it was just too over the top for me.

I enjoyed this book. Some parts went a little slow, but overall it was good.
