Set in a small town in Georgia, this is the second in a series about Grant County. Both novels are about horrific crimes against humans, and yet the reader feels involved with the main characters throughout. Both were hard to put down, and I'm going to find the third and fourth on PBS so I can request them, as well!

Another winner from Karin Slaughter! This book (with the same Heartsdale, GA charactes as her last two) centers around a deadly shoot-out at a skating rink among teenagers. The investigation turns up all sorts of ills, including child abuse, self-mutilation, and incest. I was not able to put this one down... it keeps you hooked until the very end.
