I liked this book, as it combines suspense and romance well. There was action, and the characters were likable. Kate's father was killed for book, and now they are after her. She has to trust Marc to keep her alive.

Pretty good; a mix of romance and suspense. Not her best, but it was entertaining and I kept wanting to read more...stayed up a few late nights with this one!

A great romantic suspense. After her mothers death she receives a package containing a mysterious notebook from the father she barely knows and she puts it away. Then he is murdered and accidents begin to happen so she must trust a homicide detective to help and save her.

Karen Whitlaw travels to New Orleans to identify the body of her estranged father. While there she meets Detective Marc Chastain who is investigating her father's murder. Marc helps Karen with her father's funeral arrangements and they soon begin a relationship. But when Karen returns to her home in Ohio, strange "accidents" begin to happen. Karen realizes that someone wants her dead and quickly heads back to New Orleans to get help from Marc.
I usually love Linda Howard's books, but this one wasn't a favorite. The story is interesting and it kept me turning pages; but we know the identity of the villain from the beginning of the book so there is really no mystery for us to figure out. There also seemed to be an overload of secondary characters who took up half the pages of the book. I did enjoy both Mark and Karen. He was a great hero who knew what he wanted. Karen (thankfully) was a strong heroine with no TSTL moments. My rating: 3.5 Stars.

This was my first Linda Howard book and therefore continues to be my favorite. A lot of mystery and intrigue and some great romance! You will love it!

Contemporary romance and mystery. Linda Howard writes some historical romance, this is not one of them.
Linda Howard has written another great book, very fast paced, hard to put down.
Mom's murder mystery book she enjoyed reading on her flight to visit us. She gave Linda Howard 4 stars for keeping the story interesting and moving along.
Great read. Very suspenseful. I would definitely recommend.

Great book, kept me guessing until the end
As a nurse, Karen Whitlaw has seen more than the average person, but even she isn't prepared to identify the body of the father she hasn't seen since she was 13. The local detective on the case, Marc Chastain, informs Karen that her father, who was homeless, has been murdered. Still grief stricken over the recent death of her mother, Karen isn't prepared to examine her feelings about her father and his absence from her life. She is willing to accept that he was the victim of street crime until her home is burglarized and she becomes the target for some frightening "accidents." Whoever killed her father is after her, and the only hope she has for discovering why must lie in the notebook that Karen's father mailed to her mother shortly before his death.
Another great one by Linda Howard. If you like Linda Howard, you will love this one!

Another great Linda Howard read. Karen Whitlaw is reeling from her mother's recent death when she receives a package from the father she barefly knew. When her father is murdered, Karen goes to New Orleans and meets us with homicide detective Marc Chastain.
This was the book to get me back to reading Linda Howard again. I haven't read any of her books for almost 10 years. It was a very quick and short read. I really like the male lead but the female lead wasn't as memorable. There was not enough time to develop the romance and as the story took place in less than one week. This book could have been longer by another 100 pages. But I enjoyed the story enough to start looking for Linda Howard books again.
Another Linda Howard fast-paced romantic suspense. After the death of her mother, Karen is informed of her father's murder in New Orleans and goes to identify the body. Meanwhile, his murderers are after her, believing she may have been given the book they killed her father for. A handsome New Orleans detective makes the story vastly more interesting.

Not a bad book. On par with other romantic suspense novels, though not LH's best. It was hard to like the H at first...well through most of the novel really. But by the end of it, he was, for the most part, likable.
The heroine was great -strong and intelligent with a good dose of common sense. You get a few different characters POV's, but minus the shortness of it, definitely worth spending a credit on:-)

This is a short quick read--the story is easy to keep up with, the characters are interesting, BUT there is just so much description--how many ways or times does a person want to read about 'does he love me' 'do I love him' 'hot body' etc. page after page--get on with the story!!
Marc Chastain is one of my favorite heros. His seduction of Karen is classic.
