Hmmmm, not a bad book, just a very short one. I too am hoping for something better in her upcoming books. This one seems out of place in a hardcover. I think it would have been better to have presented it either as a single mass market paperback or perhaps with other short books in an anthology. I honestly laughed and thought "You've got to be kidding!" when I saw how small this *hardcover* book was.

One other thing that didn't work for me was the jumping back and forth between what was going on with the h/h and then with the bad guys. I had a problem with this in her previous book, Burn, and here it was again. Call me shallow, but beyond the build-up of how bad a bad guy is in a book, I don't really need to know (or even care about) what they're thinking or doing every second. They're bad, they're a threat, and there you go - get back to the main characters. Don't get me wrong, some inside info is good, but not this much in such a short book. In this sort of scenario, I think the time would have been much better spent developing the two main characters and their relationship a bit more. As it is, I was left feeling that both were somewhat lacking and rushed.

Was very disappointed, it seemed like a very poor copy of her novella "Whiteout". I usually love her books but the last couple of books I haven't been thrilled. Hope her next book is better

The title of the book has a double meaning. First, there is a horrid ice storm. And the sheriff sends his son Gabe, on furlough from the service, to check on a gal that was Gabe's nemesis in high school. However, when he arrives at her place, he finds that two Meth-heads (street name ICE) have her hostage. He helps her escape, but the bad guys come looking for them.

A short story, but very suspenseful with some romantic moments sprinkled in. I enjoyed it!

Wow, riveting story line and plausible outcome. That doesn't happen often in a romance. The thrills are fantastic, no slow spots in this one. The characters are well developed and believable. ALl in all a quality thriller with a touch of steam.

I'm disappointed...again.

What happened to Howard? She used to be one of the greats!

This was a cardboard rendering at best. No depth to any of the characters. It would have been better as a Harlequin or Silhouette except even those are better than this.

She'd been off my radar for awhile but I thought I'd give her another chance. Not again. I'll go back and reread her old stuff which had some depth!

Sheriff McQueen enlists his son, Gabriel, to drive up the mountain and check on Lolly Helton. There is an ice storm brewing and Lolly doesn't have a phone or TV and might not be prepared for it. Gabriel would rather not make the trip since Lolly was his high school nemesis and they never got along. But, as soon as he arrives at Lolly's home, he sees strangers with guns in the livingroom and has to get Lolly out of the house as soon as possible. But with the ice freezing everything, including Lolly who isn't dressed for the storm, where will they hide?

I thoroughly enjoyed this story. The suspense was fantastic, the villains were scary and the hero and heroine were both interesting characters. My only problem is the book was too short. It could have been so much better if it had another 100 pages and more time to work on the romance portion of the book. Maybe they could have been stuck on the mountain for a few more days. My rating: 4 Stars.

I disagree with most of the reviewers. Maybe because I needed something quick to read during the Christmas rush but I thought it was fun, sexy and suspenseful. I've always wondered about the motivation of evil people so Howard's giving a little insight into the minds and characters of the two protagonists appealed to me. I finished the book in a day because I liked it not because it was lacking somehow. Not every book I read has to be long and challenging; sometimes a little "ice"ing is enough to satisfy.
