I purchased this book for a college class, it is helpful to understand how books are read differently when you are not reading for pleasure but academics

Once you've read this book you can't help but stop to look for patterns and deeper meanings in movies and books alike. I found that it really drives home the point that everything in a story, poem, play etc is INTENTIONAL. The authors 'voice' makes this a quick and easy read and stays with you long after you've closed the book.

Entertaining, informative, educational, thought-provoking, and humorous advice on how to read and evaluate all types of poetry and prose. Loved it!

This book should be read by all beginning high school students before all their endless essays begin. It can get a bit boring with his endless examples, but, even if you read just the first 5-7 pages of every chapter, you will benefit for your life. I find literary marvels in all books I read and all movies I watch now that I know the hidden meanings to so much. Must, must, must read this. I read it only because it was sitting on the coffee table. My son had to read it for school. Glad I read it.
