This was a gripping novel. I couldn't put it down! Great analogies were presented throughout the book! (Sin seems so appetizing like your favorite homemade desert, cooked to perfection....and then you find out you are eating wormy, moldy dog food!)

Co-authored by the masters of "Christian suspense", "House" is the story of four couples stranded in the backwoods of Alabama, fighting an evil killer demanding violence and death from their group, and a house which seems to prey on their worst, inner fears. Very suspenseful and demented, but with a positive message about hope and survival in the midst of trial and tribulation. Powerful analogies to the sacrifice of Christ, too, although nothing explicitly Christian in nature is ever mentioned. Do read this book if you're the least bit interested!

I got this book because it was co-written by Frank Peretti. I usually enjoy his books but I was a little disappointed by this one. While it was a quick read, and enjoyable, the characters lacked development. I didn't get enough information to learn why the different characters made the choices they did. To me, the plot was predictable. I wasn't at all surprised by the ending. Overall, it struck me as simply average. Not at all what I expect from Peretti.

This book was a 6 out of 10. It was a quick, easy read. The plot was a bit bizarre, definately creepy, and completely outside the realm of reality. I thought it was kind of predictable... I could see where each twist was going before it went.
All in all, it was entertaining. I like Christian fiction that is a bit meatier on creative communication of truth. This book read more like a mild horror novel where Jesus shows up at the end.

Like all books by Frank Peretti and Ted Dekker, this one was a page turner. The chapters were fairly short, which I liked. I finished the book in under 2 days. However, it was not as good as "Prophet" or some of the others. The plot was really good, but I thought they could've done alot better with some aspects of it, and perhaps not made it so disjointed. Still, I can't say that my time was wasted. I'm looking forward to reading more by these authors.

I kept reading wanting to find out the "why" of the whole story. In the end, I was disappointed. Yeah, it was supposed to be about good vs. evil and the wages of sin, and blah blah blah, but it felt so full of holes. This was my first Peretti or Dekker. I was not impressed.

Well, this book was not what I expected. It seemed more like a bad B movie for the first 3/4 of the book and not at all like a book by Dekker, and Peretti. At the ending I saw where they were heading with it, but it just didnt have the feel of a book by either. Fast reading though.

This...this...this was just awful. Horrible writing. It was pathetic attempt to combine the thriller/scary genre with the Christian genre. It was painful and I only finished it because I had fallen in love with This Present Darkness and Piercing the Darkness. DO NOT pick this up or else you will be severely disappointed.

Very disappointing. Peretti is usually uplifting. This book is horror, plain and simple, and I personally would not reccommend it to anyone. I don't think this should qualify as Christian Fiction. The Christian is hard to find, and it certainly does not redeem the horror.

Uhhhh-- very disappointing. Book doesn't develop characters well enough before diving into the mystery and gore. Then a ridiculous ending of the good, innocent girl being the savior (Jesus) even though the religious references throughout the story were minimal and shallow (repeating over and over "the wages of sin are death" by the zombies and painted on walls). Had some good psychological stuff about guilt/sin.

Certainly not one of Frank Peretti's best. Was very disappointed and took me much longer to read. Characters were hard to follow as what "sin" they had. Seemed repetitious thoughout the story.

I loved this book's look into self knowledge of destruction. Even in knowing our roots and growing up in a church family, you can threaten to destroy yourself. This book was great about showing a different appraoch to that. Love the house rules!! Like I said very interesting and much of a page turner.

Enormously boring. Just the first couple of pages made me want to put it down, but I kept at it. Horrible use of language in most parts of the book; "He jump over bed" I believe is planted somewhere within the book. Less than adequate story line and a movie adaption that never happened. Half a star for you, House!

On a deserted back road in Alabama, Jack and Stephpanie find themselves driving fast and running late. Their world suddenly changes when a strange accident leaves them stranded with no car, no cell phone coverage and no help in sight. They have no choice except to continue on foot As darkness approaches, they round a bend and see a small sign at the top of a long gravel driveway, The Wayside Inn. The exhausted couple stands in front of an inviting house, complete with gated stone wall, ancient oak trees, and a note welcoming weary travelers. Inside they find another couple with an equalling troubling story about a similar accident. It seems that the backwoods pranksters have made their day miserable. Still, they are safe--or so they think.

I've read only two of Ted Dekker's books. First I read Thr3e then I read this book, House. I have to say, House is my absolute favorite thriller novel in general that Ive ever lead. You might get a bit confused at first, but keep reading, it ties together. The one thing that stands apart in this novel is that I actually saw and got the biblical meaning behind House, which I missed in Thr3e. Its a great read if you like thriller novels with deeper meanings. :)

I absolutely loved this book. Ted Dekker is my all-time favorite author, and Frank Peretti is right up there with him. I read this book in a day and a half...just couldn't put it down! I enjoyed the characters, and how each made their own individual choices that directly influenced the end of the story. I also appreciated the analogies throughout the book, and thought they added an extra 'depth' to the story. An excellent read that I would recommend to anyone!

Ted Dekker is my favorite author. The only time I get to read is before bed, or while my husband is watching boy stuff on tv. House kept me on the edge of my bed, I had a hard time putting it down! Well done Ted! This was my first taste of Peretti, I would give him a shot!

I read this book in one day! It is awesome and full of on the edge of your seat thrills! A must read for anyone who loves a good thriller, but without the "grossness" of secular writers. You are going to love this book!

A good book that captured my attention from the beginning. I enjoy both Peretti and Dekker, so I was looking forward to the joint effort book. It was an easy read, the dark plot with spiritual meaning that I have come to expect from these authors. My main complaint is that about halfway through I was ready to be done. It seemed that the plot development was taking forever. Overall, I'm glad I read it, but I think I will stick to the authors' individual works from now on.

This was the first audio CD I have ever listened to. I was pleasantly surprised how addictive it was. I only listened to it while in my car, so I was finding places I HAD to drive to so I could listen to more. When arriving to my destinations or back home, I was so wrapped up in the story I actually hated to turn it off to go inside. There were parts I found a bit long in the telling, but it's well worth the listen, especially for fans of Frank E. Perretti's writing.

I have loved everything I've read so far by Ted Dekker. I didn't know if I'd love this one since it was a collaboration, but it did not dissapoint. It was a great thriller and I could sooo see this as a great, suspensful horror movie it they did it justice.
Loved it!! A liiiittle weird, but, it's Dekker and Perretti, so what else do we expect, right? The plot was well thought out; the only thing I would have changed would have been to bring the little girl more into the picture and explain her better. But other than that, well done!! A creepy, thought provoking great read!

Dekker is one of my favorite authors, Peretti as well, but this book really dissapointed me. Not nearly as good as I had expected. Very gory and sick, with some analogies that were interesting, but overall, just over-the-top. Don't waste your time, go read one of their books they wrote alone.

This is a okay book. The story line is feasable and the book clips along at a nice rate. Word of warning though: The book is Christian Horror novel. Nothing wrong with that, if that is what you are into. I found that the main character's depending on God to save her took a little away from the suspense. But otherwise, good novel.

Inside, the exes meet Randy and Leslie, another couple caught by the same road trap. And soon they collectively meet the innkeepers: Betty, the crotchety cook; Stewart, the creepishly flirtatious man of the house; and Pete, the childish potential stalker lusting after Leslie. And they're not even the most interesting part. As soon as the wicked "Tin Man", an entity Betty and the gang are disturbingly well-acquainted with, dropped a can down the house's chimney stating the rules, the game begins. The Tin Man wants one dead body...or everyone will die.

I was at first intimidated by the cover and background of this book but I decided to give it a try. I was immediately sucked into the Sci-Fi/Fantasy world of ted Dekker and the graphic, suspenseful, and enthralling world of Frank Peretti. It was a action, suspense filled book. Lots of twists and turns and a mind bending ending. Wonderful, masterful, ingenious book and a definitely recommended read. Bravo to Dekker and Peretti for another masterpiece!

This book was complete and utter crap. Don't let anyone fool you... this is not a horror story. This is the highly recycled, overly trite "idea" of a horror story. "Oh, the bad guy made me eat dog food pudding... the humanity!" Ugh. Oh, and lest I forget, it's written by inspirational Christian authors, so it's way preachy about Christianity and sinners too! Joy, joy.
