The story takes place FAR!!! in the future. So far in fact that technology solves all the characters problems. The story follows 2 clones as they travle across the galaxy for thousands of years trying to find out who is killing their "line" of clones.
There is a strange flashback to the girl that they are cloned from. It starts every chapter.
The story is strangly compelling, but there are too many loose ends, too many plat points that never come together.
Then the ending...well it is differnt alright. Over all I liked it. It is very different from most SCI-FI.

A mind-trip of millions of years. Alastair Reynolds never ceases to amaze me with his brilliant imagination and human touch qualities to story writing. I lost many hours of sleep on this one. If you're a fan of Reynolds, this one will not disappoint.

I really enjoyed this book. I read a fair amount of science fiction, and a unique thing about this book is how the author deals with the problem of immense distances and transit times with space travel.

Not one of Reynolds's best, but certainly worth the time to read. Classic space opera - big plot, involved characters, spanning millions of years....

My first book from this author ( but a few more on the shelves). This one the storyline on the back cover sounds interesting. this inside story isn't a let down , although is my first read about clones used in this way. Shatterlings flying around the galaxy seeking information. although not a perfect book, i gave it 4 stars for detail and enjoyment. most readers looking for the unknown or searching for the truth , the author has presented a story that will stretch the imagination with this galaxy spanning saga.
