Oh my goodness, this is flat out the funniest thing I've ever read. Usually I don't so much as crack a smile when I read something funny, but this book had me laughing so hard I was crying--- my husband came in from the other room to find out what was wrong! Get your hands on this book and then save it for a day when you really need a pick-me-up.

There is one thing that all memoirs should have... redemption. Or at least be so funny that it doesn't matter. This fell so far from the mark of being a good memoir. It was just - sad. I would have loved to see her end up in rehab and maybe married to someone with no sexually transmitted diseases. It was like *giggle* a story *giggle* about this *giggle* little girl *giggle* in this grown up *giggle* body - that drank entirely too much (and *giggle* thought it was funny), would find the nearest guy and go screw - maybe if his penis wasn't too big or small or whatever other problems the author seemed to have. It wasn't even that funny. What a piece of junk. Don't waste your time or money on this one.

This book has a Wishlist here at PBS of over 500. So many people are going to be disappointed. I am human so I like sex just like the rest of the world. But the heavy drinking, use of esctasy, and actual Lack of sex in this book was disappointing. This is not some steamy blow by blow memoirs, but just a bunch of dumb stories about a lot of people she actually didnt connect with. It wasnt funny enough, although as some parts I did laugh. It was just sad about all the drugs, lying to men, booze and one night stands. She didnt learn anything or change. Go read a better memoir.

Well, it's no Tucker Max. I did enjoy the book, I can't lie. It's a quick and easy read. Unfortunately, unlike Tucker Max, I only laughed out loud maybe 3 or 4 times. So while it was good I spent more time wondering if she really had as much sex as she says because it seems like she passed out a lot more than actually did anyhing with the guys!
You will enjoy it, but read this first, before Tucker Max and then you won't be comparing it to him the whole time.

So not worth the wait list. Horrible! I am not sure who actually thinks this is a good book. I gets old reading about a unemployed woman who has one night stands that is a drug user, drinks, and lies over and over. Who actually thought this is reading material. I actually like trashy books but this was just horrible! Do not waste your time!

I have to say I'm very disappointed in this book. I didn't find it funny at all. If Chelsea was a witty writer then it would have potential to be great but it reads like she believes that just because she put it down on paper it's going to be funny. I also don't find her funny on TV either. Now I do find Laurie Notaro hilarious. I highly recommend anything written by her.

I love Chelsea Handler and I can hear her voice when I read her books so I'm constantly laughing out loud. My Horizontal Life was no different. It was a quick read that had me laughing and hiding in embarassment all at the same time.

I thought this book was just "OK". It definitely had some funny moments in it, but it wasn't as good as I had thought/hoped it would have been. I'm going to read 'Are You There, Vodka?, It's Me Chelsea', next. I'm hoping that this one is better.

The blurb promised this would be "one guilty pleasure you won't be ashamed to talk about in the morning." This was only half true -- I felt guilty about finding Chelsea Handler's spin on her one-night spins eyebrow-raising funny. Can she be serious? I could see why readers gush about how hilarious they found Chelsea's adventures: she does have an irreverent, open sense of humor. She's a stand-up comedian after all, so you expect her to be able to put a comedic spin on superficial encounters which probably weren't that exciting in the moment. Even she seems to outgrow her love of one-night stands by the end. Although you might get a laugh out of this quick read, you would cringe if you saw any young girl whom you care about reading it. She does mention condoms, pap smears, and making sure she had her car with her, but this is buried between multiple swigs of vodka and Ecstasy. I guess in that sense this could count as a guilty pleasure -- because you might want to read it for laughs but want to keep it away from anyone mentally adolescent.

In My Horizontal Life, Chelsea talks about her younger days of sex, partying, and misadventures in the dating world. It's not for the faint hearted or for those that are easily offended. It's not great literature nor will she ever win any prize for writing, but it is funny. She's had this sarcastic streak about her that just makes what she is saying hilarious.

It was entertaining enough. Light reading. I got through it in about 2 days. But laugh out loud? Not so much. Memorable? Not at all.

It was funny. I'll give it that. Though not as funny as I had expected. To most normal people with an above avereage raunchy sense of humor - order this book. I think I'm desensitized as far as rude/crude humour or risque stories are concerned. First half of the stories in the book weren't that funny. But when I reached the chapter "Overboard" it finally got funny for me. The last couple stories were hilarious!

I bought this book awhile ago after hearing about it from a friend. Id actually been watching Chelsea Lately for awhile before buying the book, and find her so hilarious that I figured the book was probably right up my alley. Comedy isnt typically my thing book wise, its hard for me to find things in print to be laugh out loud funny like they are for most people, and I kind of suffered from the same problem with this one. It was definitely funny, but I think I really only smiled.
I blame myself for this, because I really just dont laugh at books most of the time. I also feel a little like Chelsea hadnt found her voice quite yet when this was written, because shes much funnier now. Nonetheless, it was entertaining and I had a fun time reading through the whole thing.

This book was hilarious! If you like Laurie Notaro's writing style, then you will like this book as well.
The first few stories are quirky and funny, but by the time you read about a girl's 8th (and more) one night stand you start to a) get bored and b) question the authenticity of the claim. Some of these outlandish stories are just plain unbelievable, and I didn't bother finishing. Handler's writing is entertaining nonetheless, but this is basically a collection of the same story told many different ways.
Read this book wanting something lighthearted, naughty and funny. This book was downright nasty and kind of depressing. I guess it was just too much for me. The "escapades" were not really funny. I found this to be over the top raunchy and it kind of disgusted me. Sorry Chelsea.

This book is hilarious from start to finish...
This was an easy and fun read. It's definitely not for the sensitive or remotely prudish, and let go of any expectations of literary greatness before jumping in. The author is a comedian and the "sex and alcohol" bit is her shtick, and I can only guess that it's amped up and embellished for laughs and shock value here. Although I wouldn't make this a permanent fixture on my bookshelf and will admit to hiding it from my husband, I found it entertaining and laughed out loud a couple of times. Reading it is a little like watching The Bachelorette on the "guilty pleasure" level.

Much better than Chelsea Chelsea Bang Bang. About equivalent to Are You There, Vodka?
This time around, Chelsea talks about the slut-o-lympics that was her 20s. Black dudes were too big for her down there so she couldn't have sex with them (or so she says), her one time with a midget resulted in nothing more than heavy petting before she passed out (or so she says), and the one guy who smacked her butt until it was black and blue was just barely legally an adult (or so she says).
She's no one's idea of a role model, but the book is amusing.
