Alexander Devize, Earl of Standish, went off to war and left behind Diana, the seventeen year-old girl that he loved, a girl with whom he had grown up, a girl who was a commoner but was a distant cousin of his mother. He's returned home after three years, but she won't forgive his choice of going to war instead of staying with her.
I bought this book because it was written by Joan Wolf whose books I really enjoyed in the past. However, I was disappointed with this story. It just wasn't typical Joan Wolf fare.

Confusing... I think there's too many matches being made in this book. And I don't know where the back description came from. While it's basically true, there is no suc person as Robert Welbourne--the man Diana is pursuing is named Edward.
