Classic children's story about a young girl who finds healing for herself and others in nature. Includes reading group guide. Not the classic translation--a bit more modern.

When Aunt Dede dragged Heidi up the mountain to live with her mean old grandfather in the Alps, the townspeople whispered and shook their heads. "How could Dede do that?"
Heidi loved her new life, however, and when Aunt Dede returned three years later to take her to live with a rich family in the city, she didn't want to go. But Dede insisted, and that's when the real adventure begins...

This is a version for younger readers. My six-year-old daughter had a hard time following the original version, but totally enjoyed this one. It was right on her level. I plan to read the original when she's older. It's a great story!

Lovely illustrated book of the traditional story

Whenever I'm reading a classic that starts talking about what people used to eat, it never ceases to amaze me that our ancestors managed to survive at all. If it's not 'Wuthering Heights' talking about gruel and feeding children milk for supper, it's 'Heidi' making claims that all people ate for days at a time was cheese. Amazing.

This is an easy read, as far as classics go. I enjoy going back to it every so often and rereading it. It is sort of a "comfort read" for me. It isn't too long, none of the descriptions are long-winded. Overall, the book is short and sweet. You absolutely fall in love with the main character, a sweet and fun little girl named Heidi. Also, for everyone who is like me in the belief that all books should have a happy ending, you won't be disappointed.

Set in the splendor of the Swiss Alps, Heidi is the story of a young girl's adventures. Transplanted from the mountain home of her beloved grandfather to be educated in a large city, her life changed dramatically.
This heart-warming story is filled with wonderful situations laced with tears and laughter which finally lead to Heidi's return to the mountain she loves.

Wonderful classic book.

Heidi is a true classic. I've never been interested in "warm touchy-feely" stories so this isn't one of my particular favorites. However, it is a good book and comes highly recommended to those who liked the movie and have always wanted to read the book.
