This book is eye opening and even frightening. It describes how China's Communist government controls and silences its citizenry through strategies such as public shaming. The goal is to get people to police themselves, their families, and their neighbors, so that the government gets maximum impact with the least effort. Technology has made it easier for surveillance and for the imposition of consequences, i.e., "bad" behavior ends vacation plans because you can't buy plane tickets or reserve a hotel room. This is a book that will have you appreciating freedoms you didn't even realize that you could lose under a repressive government.
