Kirshenbaum does an excellent job of breaking down a difficult decision into manageable components, creating a "quiz" of sorts that helps you make objective observations. It's not slanted in favor of leaving *or* staying. The author makes unbiased observations that the reader than interpret on his or her own in favor of staying or leaving. I found it very helpful and highly recommend it to others who may be feeling ambivalence about whether to make a change in their relationship.

I am keeping this book. Until I read it , I was so confused about what to do.....and I think when my husband saw it on the table and that it had a bookmarker in it ( meaning I was reading it, and reading it quickly ) He shaped up. I reccomend this book, not because I think it will make your partner realize they better shape up, but because it helps YOU come to that realization on your own.

This is an excellent book for anyone who knows that they are unhappy in their relationship but can't quite identify what is wrong. The author helps you step through questions about the quality of your relationship and helps identify what is working and what is not working. This book contains 36 really interesting diagnostic questions that make you think about your life, such as: DIAGNOSTIC QUESTION #4: If God or some omniscient being said it was okay to leave, would you feel tremendously relieved and have a strong sense that finally you could end your relationship? or DIAGNOSTIC QUESTION #9; Does it seem to you that your partner generally and consistently blocks your attempts to bring up topics or raise questions, particularly about things you care about?
The book guides the reader so that he or she can honestly look at what is good and what is not so good about their relationship, and then decide whether there is enough 'love' or 'commitment' to keep trying.
The other book that I would strongly recommend is THE EMOTIONALLY UNAVAILABLE MAN by Patti Henry. Patti's book identified some of the problems I was having in relating to the man in my life. This book deals with the issues from the man's and the woman's part in the drama of a relationship.
