I loved this book & thought it was great on audio. I, for one, thought Catherine Taber did an excellent job as the reader. I've read Jackson's other two novels on audio also (which she narrated herself) & feel Taber caught the southern dialect in this one well, as Jackson intended it. (Some southern accents annoy me; hers did not.) I don't feel the book description does this novel justice, though. The description makes it sound somewhat silly & frivolous, but I thought this story had just the right amount of humor, mystery, & sober seriousness to keep the reader very engaged. This book (the oldest of Jackson's current three) has been my favorite thus far.

I really really disliked this book. I would like to blame it on the reader as I read the author's Between, Georgia and liked it a lot. The reader's twangy voice was seriously annoying, but the story itself bored us to death on our last road trip. Nothing, and I mean nothing, had happened by almost the end of disk 3 when we shut it off. Too much talking, back-story overdone, and yes, too much yakking about recreational sex. Perhaps we were interested for one 9 minute segment...sad...
For the record, we are big fans of audio books.

I absolutely loved this book. It kept me going the whole time. It was about a girl who grew up in a small town in Alabama. She moved away to Chicago due to an incident and a "deal with God" never to go back to her family in Alabama. She is then forced to go back and face the incident she left behind and tried to forget. The author reads it so well with her southern accent. I highly recommend this book. This book is unabridged.

Good to listen to. Not sure I liked the plot twists - but did want to see how the story finally ended.

Kept me on edge. Very good story
I enjoyed this book. Being from Alabama, I could relate to this book. It has some twists and turns and that kept the story interesting.
Truthfully did not listen to this. Didn't realize when I ordered it that it was audio. DUH! The story sounds great but I'd rather read than be read to! I have several friends who listen to books on tape everytime they get in the car. Different strokes for different folks....
I love this soooo much.....that I am keeping it to listen to over & over again! You will love the narrators' southern slang - good story, too!
