A cozy mystery with a slightly different twist...the mystery solver is an spry, elderly woman in a Florida retirement community. Plagued by "senior moments", arthritis and a kvetching circle of biddies, she still manages to outwit the bad guy. Pretty funny and nicely written. The Yiddish glossary provided is a nice touch.

Nice fast read. A little slow at the beginning but got better. Someone is murdering the nice old lady's at Lanai Gardens, an apartment complex in Southeast Florida and it happens the day before their birthday's. Everyone wants to believe it was from natural causes. Gladys Gold thinks differently, she believes they are being murdered. Now she has to make everyone including the police believe her.

Another new author for me and I love her! Gladdy is a 75 year old widow who resides in a huge senior condominium in Ft. Lauderdale. After two deaths of close friends, she suspects murder while the police say "heart attack". She and her cohorts set out to prove murder. There are places that are laugh-out-loud funny but touching moments too. I can relate to the characters, being a senior citizen myself. I want to read all the books in this series!

This is a funny cozy mystery centered around a retirement village in FL. Funny cast of older ladies involved in solving several suspicious deaths among their neighbors. I was surprised by the ending. Enjoyable first installment in the series! Quick read.

A terrific debut mystery from author Rita Lakin. Gladdy and her feisty and funny gang of retirees are loads of fun. Great plot, wonderful characters and loads of laughs. Cant wait to read more from this enjoyable author.

First Line: The poison was in the pot roast.

75-year-old Gladdy Gold of the Lanai Gardens in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, finds herself a self-professed private investigator when her friends begin dying in very similar ways. Her credentials? More than thirty years of reading mysteries. (Works for me....)

Gladdy and the rest of her friends squeeze sleuthing into their daily round of poolside chatter, early-bird specials, and grocery shopping while one of their neighbors in Lanai Gardens, Greta Kronk, seems to be going out of her way to become Suspect #1.

This book contains both a cast of characters, which I didn't refer to after an amusing initial reading, and a glossary of Yiddish terms, which I found to be very useful. The identity of the killer seemed rather obvious to me, and the humor often fell flat.

Humor is very subjective. You may think Gladdy and her friends going shopping and dining and purposely driving sales clerks and waiters crazy is hilarious. I don't. I've spent almost all my working life in customer service dealing with people like this. If it's not purposely done, it's all right and I don't turn a hair. If people who can't seem to find anything better to do with their free time purposely come in to create as many problems as possible, steam starts leaking out of my ears. See? I told you my reason was very subjective!

If Getting Old Is Murder sounds like your cup of tea, enjoy! As for me, if I want to read about Senior Citizen Sleuths, I'd rather read something like Mike Befeler's Retirement Homes Are Murder.

The beginning was somewhat annoying. The elderly characters, though they might have been based on reality, are really cliches. I wasn't so happy about that. It seemed to me that a lot of the dialogue between characters was completely unnecessary. It it was intended as comic relief, it missed the mark. It is a fast read and a predictable mystery. I can't relate to the protagonist, so I won't be reading any more from this series.

This book is fun, fun, fun. I so enjoyed reading it, that I will try to collect the whole series.
These ladies in the story are funny. There is enough suspense in the story to keep you interested.

Cute story in the mystery genre that has a cast of seniors as real characters! Kind of reminds you of the "Golden Girls" (main character is Gladdy Gold....hhmmm, I wonder...)!

First in a series and a very easy read!

I enjoyed this first in the series by Rita Lakin. The theme of elderly ladies doing the mystery solving is a bit different, but I love the Florida setting and the colorful descriptions of each retirement resident's oddities and medical conditions. It lighthearted and fun, with a decent plot. The way the ladies stick together, and understand each others ailments, and limitations is actually true to life. I am moving on to more of these, it's a refreshing change in cozys and fun quick read. A give it a 3.5 star rating.

Senior citizen Gladdy Gold, her sister and her group of senior friends, live in a Fort Lauderdale, FL apartment complex where one by one, residents have been dying off, and not by natural causes. Gladdy and her friends start to believe it's murder and begin their own investigation that is both terrible in its findings and comical at the same time.

I loved this first Gladdy Gold mystery by Rita Lakin. Some of the characters I got to know a little better than others, but the book was enjoyable and the whodunit was a nice little twist. I'm definitely going to read the next in the series.

This was a very sweet book. The characters all live in a retirement community in Ft. Lauderdale and they are all Jewish. A lot of ethnic humor. I live in South Florida and there is a lot of "retirement community" humor in the story. Although it is a murder mystery, there is not the blood and gore. A very quick read. I will post this book today.

Starts a little slow as you have to meet all the characters and there are a lot of characters. But if you persevere to the middle it grabs your attention and keeps it.

This is one of those unexpected books that you discover that is not the "norm" in a mystery book. A group of women in a retirement community that solve a "who done it" that has you laughing and saying to yourself (if you are 55 and over "I can relate..." Great read. Looking forward to the next in the series.

I really liked this book, this series, this character. I've read the first two, have ordered the next 3 or 4. Gladdy Gold is a hoot! I want to be that feisty. I have a great picture of her, uh, mature gang of ladies on a stake-out or chasing the bad guys. This is a good FUN read!
