I love book series where authors use the same character over and over again. With each new book in a series, you can watch the character grow and learn from previous experiences, but usually each book is a separate entity and can be read on its own, even if you haven't read the previous books.

That is not the case with the Jane Hawk series. First of all, you must read each book in order, as each successive book is simply a bunch of new chapters to tagalong after the earlier books. I don't think there is any way you can enjoy Book 2 for instance, without having read Book 1, and so on. I have read the three previous books in this series, and they were good, but I was definitely ready to have this storyline concluded with the third book. Each book is pretty much the same, with Jane going after her main conquest of the REALLY bad guys, with new threats and sinister bad guys appearing in each book trying to thwart her efforts. I hate to say it, but by the time I got to this book (#4) I was starting to get bored. I didn't even want to finish it because, as you might guess, the story still has not concluded! Sad to say it, but I don't think I'm even going to look for a book 5.

This is a very dark book. You do find out about a lot of pepleo she has been working with in other books. As always you end up in the air. I can't wait to read the next book.
