When I started reading this book, it was not like I thought it would be. I found myself getting irritated with Millie for depending on a guy for happiness. But I fell in love with Sam in the beginning and I found myself rooting for him and not Joe. The last part of the book was the best and I'm glad I stuck with it!

I have mixed emotions about this book. I started it, put it down, read 2 other books, then decided to give it another go. The heroine bothered me a lot in the beginning. There she is, just finished with her residency, so she's a doctor, but emotionally she's still in junior high, which really doesn't excite me as a reader. Then there's the guy she's had a crush on for 20 years. She finally gets his attention and I really thought that, the way he is written, she was going to realize that, good looking as he is, he was mentally simple. Really. I thought he was. Instead the author asks me to believe that this 30 year old man is simply too immature to understand that a chaperon at a school dance shouldn't be giving the boys a bottle of alcohol. A real pity that the author used such tricks to drive her heroine into some else's arms because she really nailed writing the cop-hero. She should have done so well with the other characters.

I loved this book! Kristan Higgins made me laugh and cry out loud. It's more a chick lit book than a romance, IMO. I loved her easy writing style, and the way she made the main character, Millie, so real. I will be reading more of Ms Higgins books.

I've read other books by this author and really enjoyed them. This one was a little disappointing. I got bored halfway through and skipped to the last two chapters. I was able to figure ou the whole story by reading the last two chapters. It was a nice ending.

Surprising in that it has good writing and a different plot than usual romances, this is a story of a young female doctor who remakes herself into an image which will attract her long time crush, only to find sometimes it is better to not have dreams come true. You will like it.

Kristan Higgins is now one of my favorite authors. The characters are so full of life and laughter, rarely do I laugh, cry and sigh in wonder during one book. I'm picking up all her books and I recommend you do too!

I absolutely loved this book. It is the most likely way things are to happen. Most people just notice it too late. I have found that I really enjoy Kristan Higgins writings. They are awesome.

A great little read. This is my second Kristan Higgins experience. I have to admit, my first experience was better. From the beginning, I found the story to be predictable, cute, but I could see where we would end up.

A great little story about a hometown girl who returns as a successful woman ready to start a career and nab the boy she has been wishing for since high school. It was sweet and I loved her story, but I felt like I was watching a horror movie and kept saying things out loud to coach her to where she ended up.

I would recommend this book to those ladies who are inclined for a light and fluffy read, where you may be way ahead of the characters.

It's a cute funny story. Not a run of the mill romance. If you're looking for a quirky heroine with a slight stalking problem of her crush this is the book. However, if you're looking for steamy love scenes this isn't it. Higgins doesn't include those just takes us to the scene after. But Millie her heroine is amazingly funny

basically this is a book about a woman who has always had a crush on one guy. she does everything she can think of to win his love. Then when she finally gets it, she realized it is not what she wants at all! I often got frustrated with the main character for having a crush on such a dim wit like Joe, but I also kept reading just so I could see if the Ex-brother in law would get a chance with her. Not a great book, but still funny in places and it was a quick read.

This book was slow to get going for me. When it finally did, it was okay...not the best one of hers that I've read but still an o.k. choice.

An enjoyable read, though predictable. The plot turns out exactly as you would suspect in the beginning. However, you must remember this was Kristan Higgins' first novel. I enjoyed it.

Cute story! I loved it! A little over the top with Millie and Joe acting childish, but other than that- a fantastic funny read.

This book was okay...too much time spent in the beginning with the fantasizing about Joe. I felt like a lot of the book was spent with Joe...then the Sam part was rushed, especially the ending...Different premise, so I did like that. I wouldn't mind reading another of her books but won't rush out to get it.

Millie has spent most of her life obsessing about Joe Carpenter. He finally notices her and they begin dating. A true case of be careful what you wish for. Life with Joe is not everything she dreamed of. Enter Sam, her ex brother in law. Sam has always been her rock and supporter. Interesting relationships. 3.5 stars

Millie Barnes is close to achieving her perfect life with her high school crush. Then her ex-brother-in-law is beginning to distract her. He is definitely not part of her master plan but then plans have been known to change.

I enjoyed reading this book a lot. It isn't easy to find that perfect man. They comes in so many shapes, sizes and occupations. When HE comes along go for it!

From back of book: "Rewarding job as a local doctor on Cape Cod? Check. Cute cottage of her very own? Check. Adorable puppy suitable for walks past attractive locals? Check! All she needs is for golden boy and former crush Joe Carpenter to notice her, and Millie will be set."

Millie ends up finding out that the perfection that she saw in Joe Carpenter was not want she really wants. Sam Nickerson actually has all the qualities she wants from a man, but her sister just dumped him.

I enjoyed reading this book. It was fun, and easy to understand how the character feels about things in her life.

I enjoyed this book. The main character was a little off putting at first. The opening lines admit she is a stalker so it was hard to like her and when she did a couple of stalker things it really annoyed me. What sane person gets up very early to sit across the street from a person's house to see what time they leave? That is just nuts. The character otherwise is ok. I was rooting for her but a quarter of the way through and I know that love makes us do crazy things but come on! Her brother in law is a cop for crying out loud. I would try this author again. There was enough twists and turns in the book to be fun and enjoyable.

Millie has concocted a foolproof plan for winning the man of her dreams.Or is she just a fool in love? Another funny read.

fairly good, dragged out a little for the basic story line. Millie was a little silly regarding her hopeful relationship with Joe (took her like 16 years of dreaming about it)before she did anything about it. This was my first book by Kristan Higgins, I would probaby try another one.

cute story, but the concept of becoming romantically involved with your sister's ex is very weird to me.
