This is a wonderfully entertaining story about a group of female pilots who flew military planes during World War II. It begins in Hawaii with the bombing of Pearl Harbor as the women are training the male pilots to fly the military planes. Later in the story, the women ferry the military planes to locations where they are needed. It is filled with the warmth of love and friendship, as well as the losses and difficulties of the war. However, I felt that the story lightly passed over the historic details of the war and kept the story focused on the personal lives and loves of the women. Enjoyable lightweight read.

I loved this book! It's about a long hidden part of WWII history, when women were recruited to fly military planes. From little towns all over America they heeded the call to serve, and learned to fly every plane available to military pilots. The shame was that they were little recognized and received no military benefits for their contribution for decades. The facts are surrounded with a great storyline about small town girls who rose to the challenge. It was only in recent years that congress recognized these brave women and awarded them the Congressional Medal and full benefits for their service.

I absolutely loved this book. The characters are so well drawn that they leap off the page and into your heart and mind. Finished it in two sittings - would have been one but my old eyes gave out in the wee hours of the morning, so i had to take a break. There are many books available about the role of women in wartime - and I've read several of them lately. If I could only have one of them, it would be this one. Love, laughter, heartbreak and sorrow - all perfectly portrayed. An absolutely astounding debut novel. There aren't enough stars to do it justice. This is about the WAC pilots who served in the Army in World War ii. They're first stationed in Hawaii as civilians to teach the young men to fly. Then Pearl Harbor came and they were sent home. Then in 1943 a WAC Company was formed to recruit women pilots. Some had flown cargo, others were crop dusters and some were civilians who flew military planes at Pearl Harbor and were recruited again. This Book follows one women pilot and her friends and her love- James at Pearl Harbor throughout the war.
