I absolutely loved this book. The characters are so well drawn that they leap off the page and into your heart and mind. Finished it in two sittings - would have been one but my old eyes gave out in the wee hours of the morning, so i had to take a break. There are many books available about the role of women in wartime - and I've read several of them lately. If I could only have one of them, it would be this one. Love, laughter, heartbreak and sorrow - all perfectly portrayed. An absolutely astounding debut novel. There aren't enough stars to do it justice. This is about the WAC pilots who served in the Army in World War ii. They're first stationed in Hawaii as civilians to teach the young men to fly. Then Pearl Harbor came and they were sent home.Then in 1943 a WAC Company was formed to recruit women pilots.Some had flown cargo, others were crop dusters and some were civilians who flew military planes at Pearl Harbor and were recruited again.This Book follows one women pilot and her friends and her love- James at Pearl Harbor throughout the war.
