Wow! I saw the TV movie when it came out, and hadn't planned on reading the book. However, I wanted to read all five of the Women's Murder Club series, so I decided to go ahead and read 1st To Die. It was wonderful! I read it in two days. Engrossing plot with lots of twists. Short chapters that keep you reading and reading, into the wee hours.

I didn't even realize that this is going to be a tv series. But after reading this book, I can't wait to check out the tv show premiering Oct. 12th. This is much better than the made for tv movie, as often is the case with books. As soon as I was finished with it, after not being able to put it down and reading it in a day, I had to check if their were more. I am anxiously waiting the second novel. This was my first James Patterson book.
The beginning had me hooked. James Patterson did a great job developing the characters in this new series. They have a police officer, lawyer, coroner and reporter working together to solve a murder mystery. All are female and very likable and believable characters.
Lindsey Boxer is a homocide inspector for the San Francisco PD. A string of murders involving newlyweds springs up and Lindsey and three of her friends try to solve the murders on there own time. In addition to this Lindsey is fighting a potentially life threatening disease and is exploring the possibility of a loving relationship with her new partner. You will think you know who the killer is and then something comes up to make you focus your thoughts on somene else. Even when you think it is over, its not.
The plot is well thought out and explicit. The chapters are short and the story moves at a quick pace. If you enjoy a good mystery you will want to read this book.

The woman who is the 'main character' is funny, tough and compassionate - just the kind of lady we want as a friend ourselves. And her friends are great too. you'll get hooked on this team, I'll bet. This is a fast paced story with many twists and turns that hold your interest. 1st to Die has both thrilling twists and a little love story. In this book Patterson takes on the narrative perspective of a woman to create a page-turning opening to The Woman's Murder Club. I thought the plot of the book kept it interesting and hard to put down. Another aspect of the book that made it worth reading was the clear character descriptions. As well as describing characters vividly, James Patterson throws in many strong details. I had a difficult time putting it down. Lindsay Boxer is a wonderful character. Her detective skills are also impressive. I love how the "Women's Murder Club" developes and grows. The relationships between the women are honest and endearing - the kind of women you'd want as your friends. The murders are twisted and the plot moves along quickly. I love the twists that the story takes and the ending was a bit of a surprise.

I LOVE this book and the new series it begins. I read most all of James Patterson's other books (I love Alex Cross...) first as I am not big on "girly, girly mysteries". But, I should have known better than to assume that of James Patterson. 1st to Die was refreshing, thrilling and fun all at the same time. I am prepared to knock out the whole Women's Murder Club series now!

This is the first book in a new Patterson series. Four professional women (not THAT profession) team up to solve a crime. I don't think it's as good as his Alex Cross Series, but I enjoyed it.

I'm hooked on this series. Lindsey, Claire, and Cindy, and Jill are fantastic. Definately read the series from the beginning, because some of the subplots grow from previous books.

I loved this series but I started with 6 and read all the books out of order. "1st To Die" was written by a different co-author than 6 and I did enjoy it but I prefer the co-authored books by Maxine Paetro. I think I'll read all the books again in order and I can't wait for 10!

I liked the mystery of this novel, and the case was extremely interesting.. but the characters didn't feel "real" for me. The relationship between the women seemed forced... I might give the second book a chance to see if I can add a few more stars to the next one... A decent read if you like mystery novels.

If you are a fan of the new ABC show "Women's Murder Club" you must read this book. It helps to give some of the background for the show (although some of it has been altered for TV). This book was well written, a fast read and kept me guessing right up to the end. James Patterson at his best.

Excellent thriller. In particular, the chacters, their pains and pleasures are well done. Someone is killing newly weds, for no apparent reason. It takes the skills of each of the women, in the club, to put this together.
Was my first James Patterson book. My husband bought the book, told me it was the story of Women's Murder Club, which I loved to watch. Got me hooked. Was upset at number 3, disappointed at 8 and 9 as it seemed to take away from the rest of the stories. But am looking for number 10 next year. Patterson is a great writer and keeps you interestered. I highly recommend his books.

This book is complex and has rich interesting characters. At times, Patterson's dedication to detail is irritating though, as I just wanted to focus on the murders and not the subplots. Otherwise, a good book!

as always Patterson is a good read
The first in the Women's Murder Club Series, I like this much better than his Alex Cross Series. It's about a police Lt. Lindsay Boxer, the coroner Claire, a reporter for the local news paper Cindy, and DA Jill. These fiesty women try to solve this serial murder over margaritas.
Lindsay Boxer is no Alex Cross but I liked her!Exciting read.

Two other coules are also murdered, but one is in Napa and the other in Cleveland. Boxer is unsure whether there is a serial killer at work, but it is up to her to find the common denominator in these homicides.
The Women's Murder Club is made up of four women, Lindset Boxer (see above), Claire Washburn (San Francisco Medical Examiner), Jill Bernhardt (Assistant DA), and Cindy Thomas (reporter for the Chronicle). These women use their individual skills to crack open the case, a little at a time.

The book held my attention from the start. I read the second book first, but I think each story stands alone. A great weekend read.
I could NOT put this one down! (I seem to say that a lot in reviews! ha!) I'm glad I finally sat down to read it - I was putting it off just knowing I had others already out to read after I was done. Now I can't wait to read them ALL!
This first in a series is certainly a page turner. It came highly recommeded to me by a friend. The action moves quickly and the book is a fast read. James Patterson knows how to grab the reader's attention from the first page. Some descriptions are rather graphic but not tedious. I plan to read the next one in the series, as soon as I can.

This was the first James Patterson book that I read. I've subsequently gotten about 20 of them and am working my way through. Patterson does it all just right - short chapters, buckets full of action and suspense, and real characters that aren't lost in the fast pace. Can't wait to read the rest.

The concept of four professional women getting together to solve mysteries is a winner, and Patterson is a real craftsman, keeping the plot moving and providing plenty of surprises. It was a little to bloody for my taste but in today's murder mystery world that's how it rolls.

I have not read many Patterson books, but this one knocks the ball out of the park! An excellent start for a great new series. It was sit on the edge of your seat, nail biting exciting. Great characters. Cannot wait for the next one in the series.

Lindsay is an inspector for the San Francisco Police Department. She gets hit with world shattering news about her health the same day she meets Chris Raleigh, who has been assigned to work with her on a potentially messy case. He works for the mayor and his job is to keep things neat and contained as much as possible while also helping with the case. They are trying to catch a killer who murders newly weds. Cindy, a reporter for the Chronicle who is trying to get a scoop on the case somehow manages to get up to the floor of the hotel where the first murders were committed. She gets a peek at the groom on the floor by the door before she is found and hauled out. Later, Cindy sees Lindsay go into the ladies room in an emotional mess and follows her. She didn´t just push for details though, she was kind. She is smart and a good reporter but also seems to be human and possibly a good friend. Later when they meet again where another newly married couple have been reported missing Lindsay decides to make a deal with Cindy to keep things under control. They end up becoming friends in the process. Lindsay, who is dealing with this new shock about her health decides she has to solve this case and decides to ask some female friends for help. She and three other women who have also clawed their way to the top in their respected fields decide to put their heads together and work on the case independently. They meet regularly to discuss the details of the case while Lindsay and her partner track down more leads officially. It was the start of the Women´s Murder Club.
Patterson is really good! Exiting and Thrilling to boot!
