I have not read the other books in this series, so I cannot make a comparison, but I thoroughly enjoyed this book. I was a computer programmer (nerd), so that aspect of this book intrigued me. I was drawn into the story line and tried to guess "who done it". I read this book quickly because I found it hard to put down. I recommend this as a good read.

Great story.

I liked this because I've read the entire series and reading about Eve and Roarke feels like visiting with old friends. I enjoyed seeing what's going on with all the secondary characters, but there was too much virtual gaming stuff for me to enjoy the mystery aspect. Even knowing the answer I'm not sure there's enough in the book to give you a fair shot at figuring it out.

While this wasn't disappointing, there is just something off with the last 3 books. It is almost as if either Nora Roberts is bored and going through the motions or someone else is writing them for her. The romance is softened, the plot/comments/reactions of the characters are flat. Perhaps it is just missing the adrenaline rush that we normally get with Eve and her chases. Plus, I have to admit, I miss the hot, detailed "monkey sex," (as Eve would say) that the earlier novels have. The last half of the book is good and the ending satisfying but the last 3 have gotten 3-4 stars from me, instead of the 5 stars most of the early ones got.

It is definitely worth the read but the early ones are so much more satisfying. Also, while it can be a stand alone novel, if you haven't read the others, I suggest going back to the beginning for a great story, true thrill/intrigue and a hot, sexy Roarke! :)

Another spectacular mystery from J.D. Robb. This one is a little out there unless you are a role playing gamer. Then it's right up your alley. Totally cool scenario but as usual Eve Dallas quickly figures it out and fingers the bad guy. I really liked the balance of romance and mystery in this one. Roarke is the most romantic hero and this book clearly shows the depth of love between Roarke and Eve.

I just love this series and its characters, and this eagerly awaited paperback did not disappoint. Bart Minnock's up-and-coming company is about to release a breakthrough in computer games that will put the four owning partners in the big leagues, but the young geek CEO is found in his holo suite with his head chopped off. With no evidence of anyone else having entered the room and the absence of a weapon, Eve Dallas faces a classic locked room mystery with a futuristic twist. It's an exciting premise for a nerd like me, and Robb delivers. Even if I did guess fairly early on both the identity and the means of the murder (which I don't usually), I found this much more satisfying than the too-obvious clues she left in Innocent in Death. As usual, the story ended way too soon for me and I almost wish I didn't read so fast so I can spend more than a day with Dallas and the scrumptious Roarke. That battle scene at the end was, as Peabody would say, "just mag!"

Welcome back to the world of Eve Dallas where she operates at a level most of us can only dream about. With this installment, J.D. Robb takes virtual reality to a whole new level as Eve and her team have to solve a murder where trying to figure out how the victim was actually murdered when there appears to be no plausible explanation proves to be quite challenging. From the outside looking in, this case appears to be unsolvable. I enjoy how Eve Dallass mind works and this book is no exception as she analyzes every detail with a fine-tooth comb looking for the slightest hair out of place.

Sadly, there wasnt enough sparring with Somerset in this book. I have come to enjoy their snark sessions as much as they do and wish there had been more.

One of my favorite things about this series is seeing how the characters have evolved. Early on, I wondered if Eve had a compassionate bone in her body. Oh, sure, she feels passion, anger, satisfaction, and even fear throughout the series, but this is a character that plays her hand very close to her chest. You have no idea what cards she is holding until its time to draw. Eve surprises me throughout the series with the range of emotions she displays and the control she exerts on herself to hold herself to her high standards. This book brings us another surprise when the reader is given another glimpse into Eves soul and how she has to remain detached from people in order to do her job. To someone who doesnt know her very well, she may come across as cold and unfeeling. And sometimes to some who do know her well, they make the same assumption about her too.

With every book I wonder where J.D. Robb can take this series to next. There are no limitations. On planet or off, virtual or reality, this series takes the reader to unbelievable heights and depths and we are left to wonder, what next? One thing is for certain, with this series, no matter what happens next, it will be amazing and I am looking forward to my next Eve Dallas excursion.
