FAERIE WARS, the first in this captivating series by Herbie Brennan, engaged me in the first paragraph and didn't let go. Brennan does a fantastic job of keeping up the suspense all the way through the novel, purposely alternating points of view to keep readers on their toes. With his vivid writing, I felt like I was actually there alongside the main characters as they struggled against terrifying enemies. I highly recommend this book for anyone who loves fantasy, science fiction, action, and Harry Potter (that should cover about everyone, shouldn't it?).

I read a lot of fantasy and this was very different. I'd have to say I liked it (bought the sequel!), even though it is for "teens/young adults".
Super quick read!

The book was good. but not clean enough for me to let my 10 year old read it.

This book is about the world of Faerie and our world (called the Analogue world). The people from the Faerie world aren't fairies but just regular people just like us that live a little differently. That is, until they use their portal to come into our world. Then when they pass through they become a fairy (unless you use a filter). And thus starts of the story of Henry - a boy from our world and Pyrgus - a boy from Faerie world. Pyrgus gets stuck in our world and needs the help of Henry and old Mr. Fogarty to help him get back. Trouble is brewing in the Land of Faerie and Pyrgus must warn his father, the Purple Emperor before it's too late.
I, as an adult, really enjoyed this book. It was a very quick and easy read. Very entertaining and made me want to read the books following. I am a bit on the fence about whether children should read it or not. I think maybe young adults that are very mature. There are some things in this book that some young adults may not handle well. For example - the killing of kittens to make glue, the boy Henry staring at a naked girl, a man's face being blown off with a shotgun. While all these things are not in grave detail, it still could do harm to a younger individual's mind. Other than that, I highly recommend the book and look forward to reading the next one.

Great book with lots of action and suspense. There are some nice surprises too! First of a series, when done check out The Purple Emperor and Ruler of the Realm.
