**I don't want to spoil the end so all I will say is that a major plot point was never resolved. It was so glaring I wondered if my copy had pages missing but that doesn't seem to be the case. I think that because the next two books in the series are released soon (June 2009 and July 2009) she felt it was okay to let this major issue hang until the next release. It seriously annoyed me... but I have to say the rest of the book was so good I will still buy the rest.

Summary:
Evangeline (Eve, or Angel) is floating through life until unexpectedly (and excitedly) she is branded with the Mark of Cain. This thrusts her into a biblical world of saints and sinners, angels and demons, and no clear definition of who is really good and who is evil. Her only guides are the polar opposite hotties Cain and Abel, the fabled brothers who invented sibling rivalry and to this day are competing and clashing. Through *hellish* red tape and un-angelic egos the three must keep Eve safe, figure out the infernals new trick, and navigate some seriously tangled feelings.

My Opinion:
This series has serious potential! Not only is it refreshing to read an edgy urban/suspense/romance that doesn't feature a vampire, the main character is very likable and the steamy scenes are great! While she can be a little too easy going sometimes, I like the fact that she is unapologetically annoyed with God for this turn of events and I think she has some really good introspectives that keep her from becoming a "Mary Sue". All the characters have good points and bad points which give them some depth, but I felt some of them were a little forced. The flaws and complexity almost seemed like an after thought, so as not to make the characters seem too perfect.
The author info dumped a time or two, but tried to keep it limited to the Teacher/Student style. There are some aspects of the world she alluded to but didn't go into detail about, and I am very curious to see how they play out.

Similar Books:
LKH's Anita Blake series. (There are some major similarities so I can only hope that SJ Day doesn't make the same mistakes that LKH did.)

Rated R -
These books have some serious heat factor! I appreciate an author who can weave sex and romance into the storyline but readers should be warned that sex does, and throughout the series probably will, have a major part in this book.

Eve of Darkness blew me away. The first in a new series about angels and sinners that are "marked" to work off their penance by slaying infernals (demons). The premise is fresh and interesting. I love how S.J. Day fearlessly tackles subjects involving God and uses scripture without coming off as religious or preachy, in fact, it's quite the opposite. I was a bit leary of this book thinking that it would be Christian Urban Fantasy and although it uses ideas and characters taken straight from the bible it is not in any sense. I loved it!

I absolutely loved this book. It has all the elements of a great book- great action, a mystery, many scary creatures, a love triangle, and a main character that we feel for and come to care about. Do not be intimidated by the religious references or the talk about the âsexâ in the book. Both are well done and not, in any way, offensive whether you are highly religious or not religious at all. I liked the book so much I did not want to wait to read book 2 and 3. I went right out and bought both of them.

I love the entire concept of this new series. It's totally believable and so well crafted you are sucked into the story line within the first chapter.
Eve's character is amazing. She is temptation itself. She's been given the Mark of Cain and thrust into a world of biblical warriors and now she must slay evil demons as punishment for her sins. Eve's journey gives us tons of action and excitement but she is also very vulnerable as we learn in a devastatingly heartbreaking moment.
Alec Cain and Reed Able are brothers and lifelong enemies who will have to work together to keep Eve alive long enough for her to finish her "Mark" training. They are both so hott I couldn't possibly choose between them. I say keep them both Eve!
Their story is so well thought out and executed I question if S.J Day has the inside scoop on what the REAL story is with these two. LOL The mixture of biblical reference and lore make this an interesting read for believers and nonbelievers alike.
I'm ready for book two now.......

The story line has great potential. However, if I want graphic sex on every third page of what I read, I will pick up a Penthouse magazine. I was very disappointed and ended up not finishing the book because the story line kept getting interrupted by her sex drive.

I absolutely LOVED this book. I love the Cain and Able twist to everything... I think I may be in love with Reed Able. HEHE This isnt your normal take on demons and fallen angel but I think it gives it just what it needs to create a perfect story...
